YOU won't find too many high school students hoping to repeat Year 12, but that's exactly what Tweed River High's Cheyse Blair intends to do.
From the Bilambil Jets to the Sydney Roosters, Cheyse has long proven himself to be one the hottest young talents in rugby league.
“When you're young you always dream of being picked up by a club and playing NRL and it's happened to me,” he said.
“I love playing rep footy.
“I've been at the Roosters for two years and the coaching I have received from Joel Greig has really helped me get to where I am.”
Starting out when he was five, his amazing ability has seen him in local representative sides since under-13s, the NSW state side from under-15s, and now the 17-year-old can add national duties to his resume.
Cheyse joins fellow local products Jacob Miller (Mullumbimby), Ryan James (Palm Beach Currumbin) and Jordan Rankin (PBC) in the under-18 Australian Schoolboy's side, set to fight out two Test's against Great Britain in August.
It's these international experiences that the rangy centre says are the reason he is keen to extend his schooling.
“I've made the Australian side this year and am young enough to play again next year, so I am strongly considering repeating for the benefit of my career,” Cheyse said. “Next year the side travels to England, so I definitely want to be a part of that.”
Cheyse brings size, speed and a good defensive game to every match he plays, taking on a similar role to the Dragons' Matt Cooper.
However things haven't always gone according to plan, and two long-term knee injuries meant the rising star was forced to watch from the sidelines for almost half of the 2008 and 2009 seasons, making his national selection all the more impressive.
Despite growing up an avid Sharks fan, Cheyse hopes to make the Roosters in 2010.
