The Sydney Roosters and Newtown Jets junior representative teams had their first hit outs on Saturday with mixed results.

The Roosters Harold Matthews side went down by one try to North Sydney 28-24 in their first of four trial matches before the season proper kicks off.

However, the Newtown Jets made a successful return to the junior league competition after their 26 year absence with the SG Ball side running out 48-36 winners.

There were no conversion attempts in either match on the day because it was only a trial. Conversion attempts will come into play once the season begins.
