I've followed Ryan Williamson's progress over the years and before this year, he was definitely one of the most promising junior players I've seen coming through in the past few years. Although he didn't have a great year this season, he will handle NRL football quite easily IMO. He is big, strong and fast and they are all attributes that you need to be able to compete at NRL level. But the thing about this kid that impresses me the most is his toughness. He seems to be able to cop a knock and continue on and can dish come out as well as receive it. Next year IMO he will emerge as one of the best young centres in the game.
Yes he's a big solid unit but that doesn't always translate into being a good defender... I'd like to see him complete a full season in the 20's before he gets a run.
What is good is that although Williamson and Cordner haven't been stars in the U20s, what is obvious is that physically they already look capable for first grade.
That is why I am very excited about the prospects of Symonds, Jones, Friend, Waerea-Hargreaves, Pearce and Cherrington. Although none have really stamped their mark in first grade, none looked like they will struggle - all got comfortable in first grade relatively quick, regardless of their rough edges. I feel that Williamson, Cordner, and possibly young Leilua will have a similar impact in first grade - immediately establish themselves and remain fixtures.
Perrett is our best player pound for pound, while over the past few seasons, Morbs and Nuuausala have established themselves as critically important players.
The players under pressure this season will be Graham, Carney, Myles, Paea, J Aubusson, Anasta, Minichiello and Kenny-Dowall.

Your kidding surely. If you have been following his career you will know defence is the best part of his game. This season was all about getting his confidence back after two very serious injuries. Ryan is normally the best front on defender you will see. You wont see anyone run at him a second time.

If I remember correctly, a newspaper article on Williamson mention he took four players off the field in four consecutive tackles. That's a bloody fair achievement in anybody's language. He will be comfortable and ready to go after he gets some more footy under his belt.
There was an article in the paper last year about how he smashed three players in a row back and all three were carried off. If true, I imagine his defence wouldnt be that bad.

mate, I know you're enthusiastic, but do have to make every post a freakin' thesis on every player in the club? The topic here is Ryan Williamson - how's about we stick to him eh?

I am making the generalized statement that there are a certain group of players at our club that we should definitely have great faith in because of their tremendous ability to handle the physical nature of first grade and not look like 'boys' out there.

Haven't followed his whole career no... watched him in a couple of SG ball games and the majority of Under 20's if you can call that a career.. think it's about 10-15 games. I watched him struggle against Pangai... someone who got a lot of good ball and from memory he missed about half a dozen tackles or so.
For me that's someone who has defenisve issues yes. Some of his decision making was very poor. On this occasion I watched Pangai run at him time after time... correction by him time after time.

That game was was his first game back from a severely broken jaw and he was understandably a little gun shy. His jaw was still very painfull and you should have noticed he was trying to take Pangai low which is not his go. You are right he did miss 6 tackles in that game.
A few games later against Manly Ryan and Hargraves had a great old battle and he held his own even when nowhere near 100% fit.
It was 4 players in a row and Taylor was not one of them. the Taylor tackles were in another game. I doubt Sandow could put in four big hits in a row though LOL
