THIS young Rooster is being hailed a hero after he helped pull a drowning man from surging rips on the Central Coast on Sunday evening.
Toyota Cup star Brad Murray grew up far from the salt water in Scone - but that didn't stop the teen playmaker from grabbing his surfboard and dashing into North Entrance beach half-clothed when he saw the man struggling 40 from shore.

"We were actually packing the car to head back to Sydney when a lady came up the driveway screaming about a drowning man," Murray said.

"We raced around to the beach and he was caught in a channel between two sandbars. He was in a fair bit of trouble. I went back and grabbed my surfboard and paddled straight out.

"A lady who was walking on the beach also swam out and we got there at the same time.

"The guy didn't look good. He was barely able to speak. All he said was, 'I thought I was gone'.

"When we got him back to the beach he vomited up a heap of water. His lungs were full."

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation. He was understood to be recovering yesterday.

Murray rushed into the water so quickly that he forgot to remove his shorts, which contained an iPhone worth several hundred dollars that was smashed and waterlogged.

The humble saviour wanted to mention his manager Sam Ayoub's son, Jai, and friend Patrick Boyden, both of whom also entered the water.

"They were staying in a house our family has owned for 13 years, and people have drowned in that spot before. I'm always at pains to warn the boys about the rip," Ayoub said.

An avid watcher of Bondi Rescue, Murray said he was keen to supplement his football income with surf lifesaving next season.

To think there are blokes like this at the club, while idiots like Mason are on ten times the money for nothing - I couldn't care less if Brad Murray plays footy like freaking Ben Czilowski, sign him up on a long term contract.

Politis, you want to change the clubs image, get blokes like this on board.

This is the stuff we need to hear about.

Congrats Brad for acting with such urgency to save the life of another.

Thankfully it's in the Herald Sun.

If it was in the Daily Telegraph Rooster 6 wouldn't believe it.

The telegrapth would have reported "a Rooster player was in a drunken rage at the beach and tried to drown a fellow surfer for cutting in on his wave."...

One of my work colleagues is from Scone and knows his family. He reckons he has been cut by the Roosters.

Of course he's been cut, he's a good bloke - just ask Sia and Fitzy.
Well done Brad, you do yourself and your family proud.

If true its hardly surprising given how terrible our U20s have been.

Have to laugh at people stating he should be signed up on the back of bringing a bloke into shore. No one deserves a spot at our club unless they can play.

The kid is a credit to himself and his family. That's a very brave act of courage and shows he has a lot of heart.

And from as far as I know, he hasn't been cut and has even trained with the fulltime squad on a few occasions. He's a very talented player on his day when he is high on confidence and just needs to perform more consistently than this year.

Actually the Telucrap I bought yesterday had exactly the same story as the Herald Sun, including picture.

                        Maybe mine was a misprint.

Under that rule most players we have recruited in the past few years shouldn't be at the Club.

At least this kid's provided off field cudos rather than shame, which is more that can be said for others.
