For anyone who hasn't seen it, check out this video highlights package of Williamson

I know it's schoolboy level, but my goodness he's got some quality about him

No because we'll have Micheal Jennings in 2011

I also agree whole heartedly on your second point. Being a professional rugby league player seems to be a glamorous job as many people remark, but only a few are capable of going through the grind daily. They might have a lot of time off but their capabilities to do the training they is required of them is amazing and they have my full respect on that matter. You only have to watch a training session in the pre-season to understand the rigours of being a professional rugby league player.

sometimes we all need to walk in another's shoes to understand their position.
It must have been a difficult decision for him to make. Good luck with your decision, Ryan.
I'm dissappointed for the Roosters but still a fan of his obvious talent

To make it, a player must be 100% in mind as well as body.
If he thinks he's not 'on-song' upstairs, then good on him for being sensible enough to realise it and taking a step back to try and sort himself out.

It would be far worse for him to just hang around and go through the motions....more likely to end up in trouble that way, not to mention damaging a professional reputation that he is yet to build !

Hopefully after being away for just a short time he will get the hunger back. He is still young, so time is on his side.

I can remember a guy by the name of Bryan Fletcher, who just ambled around in his younger days, and didn't really get his football mind into focus until about 24/25 .......then had a pretty good career from there.
Hopefully Williamson won't take that long to come back ?

I understand that. But all im saying is, if he came with me for a 10 day stint the decision between being in the real world or being a professional football player would be a no brainer.

                Greedy666,
You are so absolutely correct. If he could experience your world through his eyes, he'd nearly be as wise as we would be if we could understand life as an aspiring footy player.
For example, a good friend of mine was an international rugby player. He used to complain how his body hurt every week during the season until Wed-Thursday.
                Here endth the lesson

So, will he playing this year as murry seems to be implying or will he be on a sabbatical as boardogs stated? I'm just as confused now after four pages of this thread.

Players who get injured a lot tend not to be good trainers s...simple as that.

Hmmm.....perhaps there could be a totally different reason behind his/the club's decision to stay out for 12 months.
The kid has bulked up heaps!

                        LOL

Not something we should joke about though... it wouldn't be true.

Some kids do that. I had a 17yo kid finish a season as an 87kg five eighth only to return the next season as 102kg front rower, and it wasn't anything to do with roids.

Thanks to Murry we now know that he has been given a few weeks off official training but remains a key component to Smith's plans for the season. Apparently Roosters staff have handled the situation very well.
