  • Freddy's Mini League in 09

The Sydney Roosters and Australian Rugby League Development will kick start Freddy’s Mini League for kids under six in 2009.

The non-competitive league will be played in the Eastern Suburbs with matches scheduled for Sunday mornings.

There will be a mini game played each week in a controlled environment with qualified staff on hand to encourage player participation and help enhance skill development.

There will be Roosters players involved over the duration of the season for the benefit of the kids and parent participation is welcome.

Hopefully we can convert some of those kids into local juniors, good idea by the club and Freddy.

This is a very good idea for many reasons and its good that the club has backed the local club's idea.

It gives them a good fun introduction to RL, without the immediate seriousness that exisits.

The fact that the 4 clubs are able to do this shows the growth that has occurred over the last several years.

Basically its taken the U6 kids out of the Souths Juniors competition into their own comp.
U7s and above will still play in the Souths juniors competition.

I went down today to the second week of Freddy's Mini league.
It was great fun with plenty of kids there from all 4 clubs.
There were kids running everywhere and some that had a pretty good idea of how to play. But more importantly they all knew how to have fun and plently of the parents there were helping out.
Brad Fitler was there for the whole day and looked like he was enjoying himself.

This is what RL is about, well certainly more than big salaries, player managers and egos.
