The Bulldogs Harold Matthews side began the 2009 season with an impressive 36-8 victory against the Eastern Suburbs Junior Rugby League (ESJRL) after leading 22-0 at half-time.

The Bulldogs were never in trouble from the outset with their superior size and strength up the middle providing the platform for the first up victory with David Klemmer, David Minute and Brenden Santi all having outstanding games and Anthony Boyd-Myers was strong around the ruck area.

David Minute was unlucky not to have scored the opening try as he lost the ball close to the line. The Bulldogs weren't to be denied with Viliami Moeakiola scoring the first try with Peter Irwin adding the extras to lead 6-0. David Minute made amends for his earlier mistake when he crashed his way over near for the posts for the Bulldogs to jump 12 points clear following Peter Irwin's successful conversion.

Anthony Boyd-Myers took advantage of poor ESJRL near the line when a gap 1m opened up for the Bulldogs 3rd try. Peter Irwin again converted for the Bulldogs to lead 18-0. The Bulldogs scored again prior to half-time with the gaps again opening up on the left for the Bulldogs with centre Matthew Fuku Fuka scoring outwide. Peter Irwin was unable to convert as the Bulldogs led 22-0, which they carried that lead into the half-time break.

Matthew Fuku Fuka added his second try after the half time as he enjoyed the fruits of the good work setup by the forwards for the Bulldogs to lead 28-0 as Peter Irwin added his 4th conversion.

ESJRL finally got on the board with Jake Webb scoring outwide, but wasn't able to convert his own try as the Bulldogs held a comfortable 24 point lead.

Winger Uafu Lavaka crossed over for the Bulldogs 6th try to push the lead out to 32-4 as Irwin wasn't able to add the extras. ESJRL crossed for their second try with fullback Allan McGrath picking up the loose ball from a kick across the field. Webb missed his second difficult conversion as the Bulldogs led 32-4 and that was extended to 36-8 when replacement centre Suia Lapuaho crossed for the Bulldogs final try of the match. Irwin failed to convert the try and finished with four goals from seven attempts.

ESJRL tried hard, but were simply out classed and out muscled by the bigger and more seasoned Bulldogs outfit. ESJRL can take credit that the second half score was only 14-8 in favour of the home side.

ESJRL = Eastern Suburbs Junior Rugby League... nice to hear we still have some association with the name.

I am personally glad that "Roosters" is not in the name because they dropped them like a cold potato. This is about the 4 junior clubs and thats it.

I run the Junior Bulldogs website for the CBDJRL and I will only refer to them as ESJRL.

I've spoke to John Dowall a few times and is one of natures gentlemen.

Their last two victories against Penrith and Central Coast have been impressive. The scoreboard flattered their opponents in both games.

I didn't see the Penrith game, but I saw the CC game. I watch the odd game as I used to coach and train a player in the ESJRL side and I'm close friends to his entire family.

              You can't argue with that.

                      .
Jake WEBB was named fullback for the 16's NSW side so obviously a few people thought he had a decent season. He comes from the same club team as Brendan ATTWOOD - Roosters Harold Matts player of the year and Nathan ANTONELLI - best back. There were also 2 others in the side from the same club team.

I was surprised with that selection in the NSW side. Your leading try-scorer IMO was your most danagerous and standout player.
