not discrediting you at all or anything of the sort but brian smith has said before becoming a good nrl fullback takes 3 to 4 years

if thats the case, which i think it could be (slater, hayne, gidley) and others i think carnage has more than exceded expectations after 5 weeks and should be givin at least another couple months

i still dont see at all what people think mini could offer that carney doesnt at fb at the moment

and i dont know about the kick, luke walsh puts up more bombs than ive ever seen, im guessing the last game was a sore point (i thought todd did really well under the high ball, they got a couple lucky trys)and not wanting to say it but the only try we let in tonight was pretty poor from mini

Those three guys may have taken a while to develop as footballers but as fullbacks, the transition was very smooth. All of them were very effective very quickly when they moved into the 1 shirt. And, to be fair, Carney has probably matched them in his first 6 games.

One difference between Carney and Slater & Hayne is that those two were accustomed to dealing with opposition kicks because they started in the three quarters, unlike Carney who was used to playing in the centre of the park. Carney has done well in this department, but I think quality kickers will be able to snuff him out.

I also agree Carney is probably a better fullback than Minichiello at present. However, considering Anasta has been quiet at 6, and we have a good fullback playing on the wing, I believe the team would be better served if Carney moved into the halves and Minichiello moved into the backs.

Anasta's kicking has been poor and Carney's kicking game would almost certainly be an improvement. Plus, despite an error today, I think Minichiello is better able to cope with attacking kicks from strong opposition sides.

He has been playing well for the Jets, and is a similar style of player as Todd Carney meaning very little change to the structure and roles the rest of the team play.

It would be a brave move considering Soward's tactical kicking game, but Smith is big on certain types of players in certain positions.

I wouldn't rule it out as an option if Carney is out for a few weeks. Mini is not the Mini of old. Then again, maybe Towers on the wing if Mini goes to the back.
I am as much a chance.... Carney is expected to play but if not Smith can call upon NZ international and our Fullback from last season Sam Perrett or former Australian rep and Golden Boot winning fullback (though imho is living on past glory) Anthony Minichiello. If Carney is out one of those 2 will get the nod. The question is who comes up and plays on the Wing. I think Kane Linnet is the only player really knocking on the door for First grade selection atm.

Agree on both counts - bad error from Minichiello today, and Carney only made one error last week (it cost a try from a bomb) but overall was okay.

that i dont know about, take 18 months out of their game at their prime and im sure we'll see different outcomes. hell look at hayne without a team thats dominating? they cant do much

im so happy with how carney is going at the moment, the only thing i thought would cause us trouble at the start of the year was him and jr jr fighting over the ball but thats not happening at all
