  • Name the 2004 Roosters Reserve Grade/20'S GF winners.

    Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone can name our 2004 Reserve grade and Under 20's GF winning side?
I am curious to know if and and how many of these young guys we kept and if not why we didn't,we had the makings to be at the top after Freddy retired and instead went downhill.
Who from these squads went on to become big stars at other clubs eg... Hannant.

    From memory:

The reserve grade team included Todd Byrne, Gavin Lester, the Paea brothers, Steve Crouch, Ian Henderson, George Rose, Stu Webb and Luke Dorn.

The Flegg team had Michael Lett, Albert Hopoate, Jermaine Ale, Jamie Soward, Frank Winterstein, Peter Taylor, Ray Moujalli, Heath L'Estrange, Sam Perrett and a few others.

Both the Dragons and Roosters reserve grade teams would be more than competitive in today's NRL.

Goes to show how poorly the lower divisions are structured these days.

              +1

Most teams head straight to the 20's for depth due for cost cutting/salary cap restraints these days, it's horrific.

BRING BACK A PROPER RESERVE GRADE.

He had been out injured for quite a while before the GF, he ended up playing in the First Grade Grand Final.

Yak hit his prime in 2005 after he left us, but really, it was only injuries that stunted his tremendous contributions to us as a consistent workhorse forward.

2000 - Played round 1-4, got injured, played round 9-15, then got injured again, then recovered and played round 26-30 (grand final)

2001 - Played round 1-7, got injured, played round 18-27

2002 - Missed round 1-2, played round 3-30 (grand final)

2003 - Played round 1-16, got injured for rest of season

2004 - Missed round 1-2, played round 3-8, got injured, played round 12-22, then got injured again, played round 30 (grand final)

In 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004, he missed a large amount of footy due to untimely injuries, that most likely robbed him of his peak with us. Rabbitohs were able to keep him on the park, he didn't miss a game for them, and in every season topped 100m per game, as well as topping 30 tackles per game in 2 of his three seasons.

I for one, firmly believe that Cusack's loss was just as important as Cayless, because Cusack played a firm, tough, error-free style of rugby league where he just did all the little things right, as well as getting though a load of work. He could have been the pillar of strength to lead us through our grim 2005-2007 years.

Mack, his loss was actually bigger but he got stupid money to go to Souffs.

I went to a team BBQ at a someone's house after he had left. He was invited even though he had gone to Souffs. I could not believe how much the players flocked to him. He was a great loss for his off-field influence and you could not be more correct with your "pillar of strength" comment. By the way, he is a comedian.

Who could forget his try against the Broncos in 2002 which kick-started our run to the premiership.

Top bloke. I remember having a beer with him when he was getting offered one year deals at the end of the year after the presentation night. He was just a plumber then hoping to get another contract.

The yak, along with fitzy are examples of the traits a roosters captain should hold.
