I agree that Jones isn't the player that Wing is. But let's not forget that Wing was playing so poorly in 2000, and his confidence was so low, that he was dropped to reserve grade. It took Murray a while to work out how to play Wing. By the end of the year he was a real attacking weapon, but it didn't happen over night.

Towers got treated like crap and dropped without being given a reason the day before the game pretty much. Smith wanted Jones there and insisted on Matterson dropping him.

Another local junior treated like rubbish and about to leave the club despite being the team's leading point scorer and, I think, best and fairest so far this year.

Smith needs to brush up on his people management skills.

In a lot of ways its reminiscent of Craig Wing, when he first came to the club - stints at five-eighth, half, fullback, centre, before they finally worked out his best position was hooker.

And that's where I think Jones' best position is, too.

I may be wrong, but I believe he has played one game at hooker in his career, and that was in a exhibition match in which he was drafted in at the last minute to replace someone...

If this is your evidence that he is a hooker, then i think you are wrong.

He is a half-back or a 5/8...Who is he going to replace? Carney or Pearce???

imo yes. much more speed and he is more elusive imo. he is also a better ball player. As a youngster the kid prided himself on his speed and ability to break the line. In that respect his game is reminiscent of miniciellos. He also spent heaps of time in the halves last year and the year before which added another dimension to his game being ball playing. Put this together and imo you have the makings of a top draw fullback. he is showing great form and potential for newtown and its not like this is the first time he has shown himself to be one for the future. I think he has what it takes he just needs a go
