  • Boyd Cordner training

Can anyone else confirm this.... Someone mentioned it to me today but thought he was supposed to be gone for the season?

Would be a massive boost for the 20's if he can get onto the field....

I'm loving the rotational policy with Smith. This way, there is very little untried depth, should injuries hit us late in the season during our run towards the final. Guys like Conn, Guerra and Kennedy can jump straight into the FG team, and we wouldn't lose our stride.

With our halves settled now, and Perrett and SKD holding down one side of the field, it all comes down to the other flank - Linnett will be one spot, but Graham, Leilua, and any other contenders need to stake their claim.

Cordner is a definite first grade prospect - I cannot wait to see what he can do!

did anyone catch the fox sports news story on Anasta's 200th match, it showed some training footage and Cordner was there training in a blue kit which indicates he is in full contact training.

as far as timeline goes he was injured very early in the pre-season so he would be around 6 months post operation which is usually seen as a minimum for a traditional knee reco recovery, hope the club doesn't rush him because he has plenty of years left ahead of him and if need be don't push him under any presure to resume this year if he is not ready.

in regards Cherro his injury happened right at the end of the pre-season so at minimum he would still be 6-8 weeks away from a possible return, for a player that has a history of serious injury he should be put into cotton wool until next year, we have more than enough back rowers to cover the position.

            How old is Cordner ?

No wonder the u20's are doing so well, Smith offering a position each week in first grade to the standouts !! Great incentive for them to play well.

Cordner just turned 18 last month, has been in our top 25 squad for two years having played in pre-season trials in 2009 while still only 16.

His only 18. Was still eligible for the SG Ball season which just passed along with Jacob Miller and Cheyse Blair

I heard someone mention that Cherro's knee is still causing him a lot of pain.. We will not see him play this year.

I hope this in untrue & i'd be relieved for someone to quash this speculation but i'm led to believe that Souths have approached Boyd Cordner with an attractive offer that will see him play first grade in 2011. Boyd is under contract and would need to negotiate a release if he's interested.

The situation is a bit tedious from what i understand because POS successfully lured him from Newcastle as a 16y.o. At the time, Boyd was looking forward to being mentored by Fittler as opposed to Brian Smith who made the decision to let the very talented local go.

there has been plenty of speculation of friction between both the Cordner boys and Smith, would be a shame to lose him as no doubt he is a talent, however Leilua has past him now in the pecking order and could be considered an even greater talent given Boyd's constant injury problems with 2 serious knee injuries and a broken jaw halting any development over the last two season.

I agree Fletch, a damn shame if he chooses to move on because i consider him to be a future leader.....in the Fitzy mould.
Boyd has been unlucky with injuries but like Mose, if he eventually gets a lucky break we will be seeing the best of his talents and leadership qualities.

I don't think there is friction between Cordner and Smith. I asked Cordner that question at a function earlier in this year and he said he was looking forward to playing under Smith and being mentored by him. Remember Cordner was only playing Harold Matthews before he left to come across to us.

Cordner would have been better than both by the time he reaches 21. But with his current injury concerns, it might slow his development a bit. But I think he will lead our pack by the time he is 22-23. He is that good a player. He has the aggression and the work rate to become a star in the near future. He just needs to be fit.
