  • Lama Tasi

THE Roosters' penchant for pinching players from under the noses of rival clubs continues. Manly coach Des Hasler is said to be fuming over the loss of rising under-20s star Lama Tasi to the Chooks next season. The 104kg back-rower is rated a better prospect than Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who the Sea Eagles lost to the Roosters last year.

Did anyone see how he went yesterday in the under 20s?

Tasi is a Cherrington clone, only fairly shorter and stockier. Same playing style.

Which begs the question if he is a Cherrington clone why did the Roosters sign him given they already have a Cherrington? Seems odd to me but then so does the signing of Watts and I'm prepared to be alone on that one.

Hey Mack, you left out possibly the "NEXT BIG THING" in your list above - Boyd Cordner.
Can't wait to see this guy play next year.

And with your list, one thing is obvious, the Roosters are going to lose plenty of those players I feel.

In my opinion, Lowe and Cordner, also tremendous talents, will spend next year developing in NYC. I also expected this of Leilua though, but he has taken to first grade a LOT faster than expected.

I don't think we will need guys like Conn, Guerra, Arona, Takairangi, Baitieri, and probably even Ryles beyond the end of their current contracts (most of which finish at the end of next season). Players like them are a dime a dozen, and are vital for depth but we can find others like this. The sort of players that we can't afford to lose are guys like Cherrington, Kennedy and Symonds - home grown products who have shown their ability in first grade at a very young age.

How come other clubs "sign" players, but the Roosters always "pinch" them?

Seems it's ok for some!

the forward pack has potential on paper but they are yet to put it together for 80minutes on the park, they have been ordinary over the last couple of weeks

Lama Tasi is having a massive game against our under 20's today, although its great to see him playing well, just wish he wasn't destroying us at the same time.

looks like our NYC is replicating our recent top grade form, halfway through the first half and we had a completion rate of 17%

Scored their opening 2 tries and made 10 metres plus each time he carted up the ball. He rarely looks to off-load the ball, just bash and barge stuff. Would be an even better player if he develops/is coached in ball playing skills.
