Sydney Roosters have snared a big-hitting forward from Queensland whom they believe will become as devastating as New Zealand international Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
Manly Toyota Cup forward Lama Tasi is a product of the Goodna Eagles club in Ipswich, and, like Waerea-Hargreaves, he played for Queensland schoolboys in rugby union.
The Auckland-born front-rower has played under-20s league for two seasons, and he was named in the Toyota Cup 2010 Team of the Year after gaining selection for the Junior Kiwis.
"He's going to be something special," Roosters South East Queensland development officer Jamie Mathiou said.
The Roosters have retained most of their 2010 roster after rising from the NRL cellar in 2009 to be grand finalists.
In addition to Tasi, they have signed former Canberra Raiders star Justin Carney and North Queensland Cowboys utility Anthony Watts.
