  • Sydney Roosters sign Toyota Cup player Lama Tasi, 'next Jarea Waerea-Hargreaves'

Sydney Roosters have snared a big-hitting forward from Queensland whom they believe will become as devastating as New Zealand international Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Manly Toyota Cup forward Lama Tasi is a product of the Goodna Eagles club in Ipswich, and, like Waerea-Hargreaves, he played for Queensland schoolboys in rugby union.

The Auckland-born front-rower has played under-20s league for two seasons, and he was named in the Toyota Cup 2010 Team of the Year after gaining selection for the Junior Kiwis.

"He's going to be something special," Roosters South East Queensland development officer Jamie Mathiou said.

The Roosters have retained most of their 2010 roster after rising from the NRL cellar in 2009 to be grand finalists.

In addition to Tasi, they have signed former Canberra Raiders star Justin Carney and North Queensland Cowboys utility Anthony Watts.

Good news, even though Jared still has plenty of upside left

Isaw Tasi play only three games in under 20s, he scored a try in each of these games, thrusting through the line from up close. tasi plays up the middle whereas J.W.H. plays wider and would be lighter in weight to Tasi. Both have enormous potential.

Unless it was only just made official (pen to paper). Or was he signed months ago, when it was common knowledge?

It has been reported in big league more than once over the last few months....

Manly have known for months and a lot of us have known for months....

From all accounts this guy is a gun. I can't remember the last time Manly fans were this upset about losing one of their own. Even more so than Hodkinson.... I wonder how he will fit and how many games he will get this year. He looks so tall and lean. He's 188cm and 104kg.

Only last year losing JWH. Manly fans were filthy about that (Hasler was too)

We have soo much depth in the backrow next season. It's difficult to determine our best pack

That is a very good sign for the future because I think JWH is pretty bloody good too. He showed signs this year but I think he might really hit is straps over the next two seasons as he gets a little older. With Tasi, JWH, Masoe and Kennedy there is potentially some real mongrel in our pack.

                          You got that right.....

I have a really good feeling about our future......we are growing as a team, not spending every spare cent on players who could very well be past their useby date as we have always done in the past.....

JWH is an animal......*swoon*.....and Marty is a Monster.....(my bookends).........

2011 is shaping up to be a mighty fine year.....Mongrel.....now that is a word that has not been used for quite a while when speaking of the Roosters.....good to see its making a comeback too.....

A crop of raging young bulls with size and aggression:

                            Nate Myles - 25 - 188cm, 106kg
                            FP Nuuausala - 23 - 183cm, 105kg
                            Anthony Cherrington - 22 - 193cm, 110kg
                            Tinirau Arona - 21 - 183cm, 104kg
                            Martin Kennedy - 21 - 191cm, 115kg
                            Jared Waerea-Hargreaves - 21 - 193cm, 108kg
                            Mose Masoe - 21 - 192cm, 115kg
                            Lama Tasi - 20 - 188cm, 104kg

That is a pack of frightening size and potential. Imagine if Anasta, Ryles and Conn move on at the end of next season, but these kids all step up...

                            8. Masoe
                            9. Friend
                            10. Kennedy
                            11. Nuuausala
                            12. Aubusson
                            13. Myles

                            14. Watts
                            15. Cherrington
                            16. Hargreaves
                            17. Tasi/Arona

We will have giant Isaac Maliota running around at Newtown too, from all accounts.

                              Masoe/Arona
I think I just came in my pants a little... That is an enormous pack with so much potential. Between JWH, Cherro, Masoe and Kennedy, it leaves most other packs for dead. Except maybe Canberra. Hopefully they all have big pre-season and put on a kilo or two of muscle and get some explosive power happening. JWH looks like he still has some growing to do and some fat to drop off. Same with Kennedy and Masoe.

A few of them really need to step up next season though. I'm hoping Aubusson makes the City-Country side, as well as possibly Kennedy (depending on what they decide for eligibility). Should Ryles, Anasta and Conn leave us, then that is a big blow to our leadership group. Especially with our two likely youngsters in our backline. We need a big season from three or four players.
