Western Suburbs Magpies suffered a 32-14 loss to bottom placed Newtown Jets at Campbelltown Sports Stadium tonight in round 10 of the NSW Cup competition.
The victory was the Jets second for the season and was a big scalp considering the Magpies are the competition leaders.
Newtown opened the scoring with a try to lock Matthew Hall next to the posts. Centre Chris Tuatara converted the try for a 6-0 lead.
Wests had a good chance to score in the 32nd minute when a grubber kick by Nathan Waters saw the ball sit up perfectly short of the line only for centre Rhys Pritchard to miss the ball in trying to toe it through.
Newtown extended their lead to 10-0 when forward Ryan Millard powered his way over the line from 15 metres out. Tuatara converted the try for a 12-0 lead at half-time.

                    2nd Half
Wests opened the scoring in the second half with a try to centre Rhys Pritchard near the posts to trail 12-4. The try was not converted.
Newtown hit back immediately with a try to full-back Luke Hume next to the posts. Tuatara converted the try for an 18-4 lead after 50 minutes.
Pritchard scored his second try when he latched onto a perfectly placed grubber kick to score behind the posts. Full-back Shannon Gallant converted the try to leave the Magpies trailing 18-10 after 58 minutes.
Newtown went to a 22-10 lead with a second try to Hume when he beat three defenders to score under the posts. Tuatara converted the try for a 24-10 lead.
A fight broke out from try resulting in a Newtown player joining Gallant in the sin-bin for 10 minutes.
Jets five-eighth Sean Rudder then scored under the posts after backing up a break by forward Jasmes Koloamatangi for a 28-10 lead with 16 minutes remaining till full-time.
Pritchard then grabbed his third try of the game to bring the Magpies back to 28-14. The Jets then sealed victory when centre Tu’u Maori dived over in the corner for a 32-14 lead.

Well done Jets - may your form continue to improve so as to put pressure on some of those in the Roosters' FG squad.
