I've never been big on players being touted as stars.

However, I remember Beetson talking about Dean Widders and labelling him as the most talented player he had seen in years.

A mate of mine was working with the Flegg side when he was playing for them. He told me to come down and watch this bloke play.

I haven't seen a player dominate a game like that. He was a genius, he single handedly won them the title that year.

    He could have been anything.

I remember the first I saw Widders play Flegg.. My first thought was, "Why is this chubby forward playing like a 5/8?" Later that match he got the ball on around the 20 metre line, put on a big side step and raced through, came to the fullback and chipped over his head and regathered and ran 50 metres to score.
