The Raiders are set to sign one of the fastest junior rugby league players in the country.Source: FOX SPORTS Canberra are on the verge of snatching one of the fastest young talents in rugby league from the Roosters.
Xavier Savage — a former Queensland sprint champion — is believed to be joining the Raiders on a lengthy deal in the coming days.
The 17-year-old electric winger is one of the brightest young talents in the game and it’s understood Canberra have fought off a number of rival clubs to capture the youngster’s signature.
Savage recorded a time of 10.95 in the 100m as he won the Queensland Junior Athletics Championship in 2018, and also lifted titles in the 200m and long jump.
A promising union player at Brisbane Boys College, Savage joined the Roosters’ SG Ball side last year.
A Queensland State of Origin representative on the wing in last season’s under-16 tournament, Savage has received an offer for a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Green Machine.
His signature would be a huge coup for the Raiders, who are well-known as one of the best development clubs in the NRL.
