  • NYC Team for 2012

Just wondering how people think the team will look next year. There's a few players moving on in key positions with Alofa, Taripo?, Moga, Blair, Littlejohn, Evans, Dumbrell, Liu and Lowe all either moving on to other clubs, to NSW Cup or into our first grade squad so that leaves a lot of room for young guys like Cory McGrady and Jared Allen to make their way into the team.

I don't follow SG Ball closely so I was hoping that someone could inform me about any talent that will make the step up for next season.

Bearing that in mind I'd imagine the 2012 team would look something like this.

    Jaivid Bowen
    Asipeli Fine/Paul Rokolati
    Adam Henry
    Curtis Rona
    Usaia O'Sullivan
    Jared Allen
    Ryley Jacks
    Dylan Napa
    Clarrie Moore
    Brandon Tago
    Jack Siejka
    Sam Bernstrom
    Dane Atkinson

    Cory McGrady/James Helliwell
    Tai Tuivasa
    Daniel Arona (still with us?)
    Adam Brent

Pretty solid team. Hopefully the halves can stand up without guys like Moga and Lowe creating on the outside. Still a very good forward pack.

    Thoughts?

    Hi Yak,

I think you will find that Adam Henry will be too old for NYC next year and Daniel Arona was cut earlier in the season.

Moga & Evans will probably start in NYC so you can slot these two into those spots.

We have also signed the Parramatta NYC Hooker Dean Blackman so you will need to fit him in somewhere as well.

      Yak, from what i gather,

Jared Allen has been cut for 2012.
Daniel Tupou(Parra NYC winger) is still eligible.
Lloyd Perrett - Aust Schoolboy prop & brother of Sam, played SG Ball for us last year. He should be ready for NYC in 2012.

There always seems to be talented kids recruited from Qld each year.....let's see what next year brings. Lama Tasi's younger
brothers are under scholarship but not sure what age group they fit into.

I read somewhere that Blackman was too old next year but just checked it and right you are. His signing makes much more sense now with Dumbrell moving up to the Jets. Checked Daniel Tupou out and as I suspected he was too old. He's actually older than Adam Henry so he'll be playing for Newtown. Saw he play once and he looked ridiculously tall but hardly touched the ball. I remember reading that he debuted in the NYC in 09 so kinda figured.

That surprises me that Jared Allen was cut. I thought he was very good in the few games he played this year. His game against Canberra when we won by 50 was outstanding. Also surprised about Arona. I thought he was voted SG ball forward of the year or something. Might have been when he was playing Harold Mats though.

Gman you're spot on about finding talent from QLD every year. I thought a kid in the squad this year Shaquille Blair was supposed to be a real talent but didn't hear anything about him after that. If Lloyd has half the heart of his big bro he'll be one hell of a front rower!!

If Bowen & Shaq should step-up & play NYC this year if still with us.
POS Qld based offsider Jaimie Mathiou does a good job up there spotting talent. He was responsible for Tau Tau. Hopefully there
might be others like him signed up but unfortunately we tend to get the ones that don't make it in the Broncos/Nth Qld system.

cory mcgrady who we picked up mid-season from the titans but who didnt play a game for us is rated a massive talent not only by us so it will be interesting to see how he progresses. he is a half/5/8. im sure there are a couple of decent outside backs floating around from the 20s/that we will acquire come the start of the season. i still dont understand why we essentially did a swap with cheyse blair and daniel tupou. blair is a kid that has played stacks of rep footy, can play anywhere across the backline, is one of our own and is still elegible for TYC next year. tupou is a largely unknown character who seemingly failed to set the NYC world alight/has limited rep experience and is inelegible for TYC next year. It can be based on build or the fact we needed a winger because imo, cheyse blair is best suited to wing in first grade at least for the first few seasons due to his athleticism, height, work in the air and finishing ability. letting miller go and saying no to young mcgahan also rate as very strange decisions
            1. Bowen
            2. Fine/Rokolati
            3. Moga

            5. O'Sullivan
            6. McGrady

Tupou may only be trialling with us. Don't foget in the last few years we had guys like Gary Natoelofa, Filinga Filiga, Matt Rua and David Thomas( parra) that didnt last the off season.

Blair went for the dollars too. He was offered more by Parra than what we were prepared to give him.

TBH, since its inception, i've always considered the U20's set-up as one for producing us future 1st grade players as oppposed to
making the top 4 each year. Making the finals is a plus.

Over the past couple of years we've sprouted Martin Kennedy, Mose, Symonds, Cordner, Leilua > most are considered promising players.
From the current crop those earmarked to make the next step include > Kane Evans, Tau Tau Moga, Curtis Rona.
Not bad for a club that is disadvantaged when it comes to juniors.

Unfortunately out of Jacob Miller, Cheyse Blair & Ethan Lowe i think Jacob is the one that will come back & bite us.

I think James Helliwell may be too old and I think has returned to Syd Uni rugby.
I would not be surprised to see a couple of the boys from 2012's SG ball play U20s after their season is done.

Other players who have not been mentioned above who may come into the picture are:

Rhys Martin a centre from the SG Ball team who played QLD u18s

Jarryd Clarke (Nobby Clarke's son) who played 1 game this year & Nathan Aubusson (Mitch's brother) in the backrow

I heard that the club has used it's cap for NYC and there is No money left to sign Evans, he may be on his way to the Tigers.
