Very exciting news about Wells. IMHO the kid is a natural and I have no doubt he will make 1st grade in the future.

So we have Alofa, Wells and now Tuivasa-Sheck that have the potential to make FG.
Mini's last year in 2012.
Anyone think either Alofa or Wells will be ready in 2013?
we will see how Tuivasa-Sheck goes in NYC in 2012, then will see at the end of the year if he is right for league.

Wells still needs to build up his body before he is ready for first grade. If he can put on around 10kgs and get up around 85kgs then he shouldn't get dominated as much in the tackle once he hits grade. Hoping this year he also improves his hands because he certainly knew how to make a shocking fumble last season, normally off grubbers when he had no pressure on him.
But there is no denying he has the talent to play first grade for a long time. His speed is immense and the way he uses it is brilliant. Normally drifts to the right on the edge and accelerates through the line. Seemed like he made a line break like this every game he played in this year.
Alofa is probably not as naturally gifted and not as quick as Wells, but he is has much better hands and is a better defender. Breaks more tackles on kick returns than Wells with very good footwork and ducks through tackles a lot.
Will be interesting to see how the Jets team will look early next season. Alofa and Littlejohn may not even get first shot at their respective positions with Pritchard and Mortimer probably ahead of them for their spots. That's a shame because I'd like to see how Littlejohn handles the step up from 20's. I rate him as a better allround player than Mortimer going on seeing a fair bit of both of them last season.
2013 backline if the best young players can live up to their potential should look something like this:
1. Wells/Tuivasa-Sheck
2. Tuivasa-Sheck (looks a bit too good to be a winger though)/Wells
3. Moga
4. Kenny-Dowall
5. Perrett
That's the dream!! We'd go from one of the slowest backlines to easily one of the fastest (1,2,3 are absolute lightning).

He's quick in the same way Inglis is quick. Can get outside his pace with speed easy as you like. For a few of his long range tries this year after he broke into the open he'd beat the covering fullback on the outside with pure speed which is quite amazing. Also his acceleration from a standing start is better than anything I've ever seen before. I don't know what his time over 100m is or anything but you can tell he is extremely quick. He has a brilliant fend but I think it's his speed that gets his through the line, he just uses his fend to "seal the deal". I think Smith will start the season with Moga in the centres and Leilua on the wing (would much prefer him in the 2nd row but I can't see him beating the other candidates to a spot there). Moga would do well on the wing but it would be a massive waste of his talent.

Get well dane.

That's terrible news Scruffy. Has he done his ACL or something? Dane really started to hit his straps at the end of last year both in attack and defence. Totally agree with your assessment of his defensive ability. Most reliable and solid defender I've seen in a long time at that age. Adam Brent is a more than adequate lock replacement but Dane will certainly be missed sorely. Do you know if he is contracted past this year? With the wealth of good backrowers we have at the moment he could be the forgotten man.

Tuivasa Sheck is no where near NRL standard yet. The guy also needs to put on at least 10kg.

I think it is way too early to judge how far off RTS is from first grade. Nearly everyone on here is yet to see him play in the flesh yet. The kid is about 92 kgs though so he would be one of the heavier fullbacks in the league already at just 18. Wells does need to build up a little more but if that means he loses his speed you would not even bother with it. He's very tall (both Foley and Pritchard were much shorter in comparison) so I think that gives the impression that he's slighter than he is. If they kid can still break the line with his pace I'll have him thanks. Locke is contracted til the end of 2013 so I'm not sure where the rumours are coming from. Don't get me wrong i think Locke is brilliant but if you're basing this off size both RTS and Wells will be significantly bigger than Locke by the time Locke comes off contract. And imo from what I've seen of them they would both be just as quick as him too, Wells in particular. I think a lot will be revealed in the trial against the dogs, for good or bad.

People need to get over size, it's something that's easily gained or lost... skill and ability is natural talent that can't be gained anywhere near as easily if at all.

IMO Wells will never make FG, & I doubt Sheck will either.
Sheck is probably better off trying to play 5/8.
