We've had very good young players since early 2000.

But it all comes down to the coaches and senior players.

What we have failed at miserably in the last 6 years is the terrible coaching and lack of real genuine leadership by our senior players.

When you haven't got that basis, you can forget about the young kids reaching their potential.

I'm going to be completely honest here. Back in 2000 when they paid for Craig Fitzgibbon to come here, I thought it was a mistake, getting a second rower that Saints didn't want, I called him a nuffie and a waste of money. I ate those words like a triple decker shit sandwich and I'm glad I was proven completely and utterly wrong. He was one of the finest players ever to don a Roosters jersey and one of our greatest Captains.

And look who he was replaced with.

        Fred,
Will the return of Ricky remedy this & turn things around?

for those wondering why we are having salary cap problems, one can only imagine what we had to pay the likes of Moga and now Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to secure them from the more than half of the rest of the competition that were trying to secure them.

we are now in a position where we possibly hold the highest rated 18 y/o outside backs from both Australia and New Zealand, nothing is certain in rugby league when dealing with young players (Ryan Williamson perfect example) but geez its about time we finally get our shit together and finally transfer some of this junior potential into first grade results.

not sure about everyone else, but i've got my fingers crossed Jason Taylor can play a big part in the development of these two young kids (via NYC) and we can start the long slow process of building a young core group of talented players that will lead us to our next premiership.
I believe his coaching was the reason our players performed poorly in the semis.

They seemed to change their style and played poorly as a result.

            Another non winner like Smith.

Well said Fletch. In the end a lot of it comes down to the mental toughness of the kid which is not always easy to tell at that young age.
Just have a look at the AFL draft system. Some of the best players come from picks 20 to 40. At the early age they were drafted a lot were not physically or mentally developed and therefore did not stand out. Sometimes its just an 'educated roll of the dice'.

Nope, it would just continue the terrible choice of coaching that the club has made in the last decade. It might cause an initial good first year but then things will fall apart again. Just look at the track record of our coaches since and including the appointment of graeme murray in 2000. Basically all of them (with the exception of chris anderson who was way past it) came in and had a good first year as their honeymoon year then things progressively got worse after that instead of improving. The whole idea of coaching is to improve players and results over time. Initial one year wonders dont work, its what they do in their second or third year that counts. In the first year, the players usually like a fresh approach but then once the second year arrives and they work out that the coach has no real idea what he is doing then they fall off their performance - even just a 1% fall off in their performance in a competitive physically brutal sport like league is can mean the difference between having a winning or a losing year.

We really needed to go hard after someone like bennett (again) or hasler or bellamy. They can sustain good performances over repeated years. But instead nick is making the wrong decisions about coaching.

I dont buy the crap many dish up on here about injuries or disruption because of a certain star player being in trouble etc. A few years ago manly had major disruptions at the start of their season involving a few of their very best players (not just one player but a few of them) and they had severe injury toll as well yet they still managed to make it to 8th spot in the finals even though they limped home in the end. Why, because they have got a great coach. We on the other hand fall apart and for a long time look close to getting the spoon. No good coaching, no good leadership, no good anything.

Correct, he wont develop them but they will also go backwards the longer they spend with him.

Look at what is happening to our club, we are reyling on duds from souths (eg taylor) or parra (eg mortimer). That is how far we have fallen and continue to fall.

Sorry Yiorgo, no joke. At this point in time, the current SOO coach is top of the list to replace the schoolteacher.

Discreet discussions were had with Dessie but Greenberg is an astute operator. Whilst the holy trinity are at the Storm, Bellyache
                    will remain.....so rule him out.

By default, leaves Ricky perched high. His likely return will certainly evoke mixed reactions amongst our fan base. Stay tuned!!!

No better source than the recent stupid history of our club.

I still hold out hope for Bellamy, Melbourne have peaked they can't get better I could see him leaving.

I think all the clubs with deep pockets have long term coaches we could be in a good position to get him if he was available.
