  • Roosters re-sign junior star Moga

Promising young centre Tautau Moga has celebrated his 18th birthday this week by agreeing to an extended deal with the Sydney Roosters keeping him at the club until the end of 2014.

The new deal will see Tautau continue his growth with the Roosters and is in line with the club’s policy of encouraging young and developing talent. He has come through the Sydney Roosters Academy system after being signed by the club at the age of 14.

Moga dominated the awards in the junior categories at the Roosters end of season Jack Gibson Medal last September, picking up three awards including The Harry Phipps Rising Star Award, The Chris Sykes Junior Representative Player of the Year Award and the NYC Players Player Award.

With his try scoring ability, speed and footwork, the imposing 193cm and 108kg centre is still growing and was on the verge of competing in the NRL in 2011 but was unable to be considered as he was yet to turn 18.

Roosters recruitment manager, Peter O’Sullivan, was enthusiastic about the extension of Moga’s contract believing him to have the potential to become one of the super stars of the game.

“While he has a lot of work to do on his game, Tautau took the step up from SG Ball to the Toyota Cup last season and quickly established himself in the team, proving potent in attack and scoring a number of great tries,” he said.

Sydney Roosters Head Coach, Brian Smith, added: “Tautau was an absolute standout in the Toyota Cup competition last season.

He has incredible speed, strength and footwork for a young man just 18 years of age and we are all looking forward to watching him develop over the next few years.”

very positive news for the club, wouldn't have come cheap, most of the other clubs in the NRL would have been trying to get their claws into him.

geez 193cm and 108kg, hope he keeps his speed/agility as he continues to grow.

Tautau still has a lot of areas to work on having just turned 18 yesterday, but we can safely say you will see him playing in the NRL at some stage this season.

                    Martin Kennedy
                    Tom Symonds

                    2013

                    Mitchell Pearce
                    Josh Ailoamai
                    Mitchell Aubusson
                    FP Nuuausala
                    Jack Bosden
                    Peni Tagive
                    Daniel Mortimer
                    Brad Takairangi

Looks like the core is beginning to emerge...

                    1.
                    2.
                    3. Kenny-Dowall
                    4. Moga
                    5. Tagive
                    6. Maloney
                    7. Pearce
                    8. Kennedy
                    9. Friend
                    10.
                    11. Takairangi
                    12. Aubusson
                    13. Bosden

                    14. Mortimer
                    15. Nuuausala
                    16.
                    17. Ailaomai

                    18. Symonds

That would leave 2012 off-contract players Kane Evans, Anthony Cherrington, Boyd Cordner, Tinirau Arona, Aiden Guerra, Lama Tasi, Mose Masoe and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves fighting it out for the remaining forward spots, and Adam Henry, Daniel Tupou, Justin Carney, Joseph Leilua, Jack Littlejohn, and stalwarts Braith Anasta, Sam Perrett and Anthony Minichiello tussling for the remaining back line spots.

The signatures I'd be focusing on in the forwards would be Tasi, Cordner, Masoe, JWH and Evans. Possibly Guerra, too.

In the backs, only Perrett and Leilua are really necessary.

The rest depends on form, but we could easily recover.

He will just be another waste of money. A brilliant lower grade player without the skill or balls to compete in the top grade. Stupid to extend him without even seeing him in the top grade. The new Ryan Williamson.

What a cock jockey you are, anyone with a half a brain can see the kid is special,. If we hadn't of re-signed him and he went onto be a star at another club you would be bagging management about that. It might take him a little bit to get up to speed with FG, but I reckon he will be twice the player William Hopoate is.......
