TERRITORY teenager Joseph Forrester is one step closer to his NRL dream by signing a two-year deal with the Sydney Roosters.
The talented 18-year-old, who won the 2011 Frank Johnson Medal as the Northern Territory Rugby League's best and fairest player, is in the early stages of a pre-season campaign with the Roosters under-20 team.
Forrester trialled with Penrith and South Sydney prior to inking the deal which will see him vie for a spot in the Toyota Cup squad in 2012.
"My manager had some DVD footage of me playing at Nightcliff and sent it to the Roosters; they got in contact with us from there," Forrester said. "It is a very good opportunity for me and I'm happy to be down here."
Former South Sydney A-grade coach Jason Taylor is in charge of the Roosters' next generation of stars and Forrester has already been impressed with his new mentor.
"He is a good bloke and gives you great advice on your game. I've already learned a lot from him," Forrester said.
"The training is a lot different to what I'm used to and it is a very professional environment at the club."
Forrester, who can play centre, wing or fullback, admits he will be happy to play anywhere as long as it means a berth come Round 1 in 2012.
"The squad size at the moment is 30-35 and it is cut down to 25 by the start of next year, so I've got to work hard," Forrester said.
"We get a couple of weeks off over Christmas and then it will be back down to Sydney to keep preparing for the new season."
And hey look! He's a Youtube superstar too!!
