  • Tau tau Moga

Ive watched this kid play and ive got no doubt about his ability , i feel all the publicity and expectation already reaped on this kid is not going to do him any favours , 1st grade is a massive step up he hasnt even played for the jets yet i hope they blood him in slowly and give him a chance to develop so he can show his true talent , it takes easily 2 years to get used to the mental and physical demands of 1st grade i hope we dont expose him to quick and that he comes through newtown your thoughts ?

I agree that from U/20's to First grade is a big step. He may have had great trial form but it's a trial game.

From a development point of view I think a few games for Newtown can see if he truly is a level above the rest. He has been getting too much hype.

I'm excited to see him grow with our team.

I would have no problem easing him in via Newtown or on the wing.

How many 18 year olds have come into the NRL and dominated? The last one I can remember is SBW and he is a one in a million athlete.

if Smith claimed he was ready in every way for first grade this time last year...

It's now a year down the track & sort of makes this thread redundant

I was definitely one of those singing his praises last year however after watching him in person on Saturday night, I think he may be found out defensively as he struggled - especially in the first half. Evidently he did have Carney outside him but I paid particular attention to him and could see him unsure of himself in certain defensive situations. This lead to poor reads and a number of misses.

Unfotunatly the structure of the lower grades makes it too easy for under 20's to take the step to first grade.

Creating the NYC as the step to first grade was a huge mistake by the NRL, it now makes Reserve grade (NSW Cup) as a kind of void between the 2, there is now a major gap between NSW cup and First grade, when it should be the stepping stone to first grade.

Don't think Moga would benefit from a stint in Newtown, would hinder him. He's too much of a talent.

They probably know it as much as you and me but they did it to cut costs and to hell with the implications.. Until the game is run by people who actually care about the long term benefit of the game then nothing will change.

From what have seen of him he ticks all the boxes, imo if the coaching staff think he is ready I am happy to see him there, to tell you the truth seeing moga play is what i am looking forward to the most.

Tau will be fine. When the center/wing spots are settled by smithy the boys can start getting used to playing inside or outside each other, working on thier combination with each other. That carney kid the other night was so far off his wing i thought he was one of the centers a couple of times and he paid the penalty for it when smithy took him off.I thought that if carney was where he was supposed to be on the wing, at least 2 of those trys would have been shut down by moga sliding in defense and tackling his opposing center.Only my opinion.

Agree completely. NYC is damaging the game. it needs to be raised to under 23s with 2-4 "opens" players allowed in each weeks 17.

either that or the state leagues need major rejuvenation - particularly in NSW.

I really hope the commission is onto this.

If you think Moga might have struggled defensively, watch opposition teams struggle to contain Moga's forays through their defensive line. Moga is a must for our first grade run on side.

If people are worried about his defense then take a look at SKD's defense and he has had 4 years experience. If those that think SKDs attack nullifies his lack of defense ability then Moga should be given a crack.

Completely agree. Moga is not just any other footballer. Folau, Inglis, Hayne, Marshall all these guys made the jump straight away. Im not saying Moga is going to be as good as them now, but all Im saying is players have done it before and made it good....

And im pretty sure Brian Smith and POS are probably in the best position to make the call on if Moga is ready to make the step up or not... Besides it was POS who found Folau and Inglis, so Im sure if they reckon he's ready to make the step up to 1st grade, then he's ready !
