  • Jets flog Wenty 40 - 18, Symonds hat trick.

A demolition job by the boys this arvo, it's usually good signs when your reserve grade team is strong.

Symonds 3, Alofa Alofa, Kheirallah, Henry, Kara the try scorers, Kheirallah kicked 6 goals too.

we have some great depth at the moment, Symonds played really well and Kheirallah had a blinder more importantly our front row had great go forward

Good to hear Kheirallah has continued on his trial form. I'd imagine his kicking game was impressive as in the trials? Was he effective with his running? I'd have as third in line as a half ahead of Mortimer from what I've seen of both of them.

Also, what position did Symonds play? Egde backrower, centres or tight roamer like in the Tigers trial??

I was really impressed with Kheirallah's passing game actually ,really slick his kicking game was solid ,I think Mortimer has a better short kicking game....just
Symonds played on the edge in attack and in tighter in D

Thanks mate. Good to hear about Killer's passing game. It's probably the part of his game that I thought he was lacking in the most so that's great.

Interesting that they've got Symonds defending tight. Hopefully it's to get him a bit more hard-nosed so he can dominate in defence more when he gets his chance again in first grade. For mine he's still as threatening as any of our other backrowers when it comes to attack, just lacks workrate and dominance in D.

Sounds like Alofa had another good game. Made a big break returning the ball or something. That's something that he did a bit in the 20s last year. Great footwork and speed. Hopefully we get a chance to see how he goes in first grade at some stage this year cos his attitude is exceptional.

Can't wait to get out to a few Jets games this year...they have so many quality players this year.

I'm starting to really like what I hear & have seen of Alofa, I'd be very happy to have him as Mini's replacement when the time comes at No.1, he's pretty much ready made in my books, what do you think Yak?

I've always liked him. His communication on the field is astounding for such a young fullback. He's an excellent last line defender. Very quick and athletic. Safe under the high ball. Ticks all the boxes. The question is will the flair of RTS beat him to the position when the time comes. Wells is still in the picture but after seeing what RTS can do today he's my bet for our long term fullback. He's an x-factor type player that can ball play (excellent short passer), run, step two players at once, and a great front on defender (really hits with the shoulder which would be great to see finally in a fullback). I've have to save my judgement on Alofa though til about round 6 after I've seen a few of his Jets games in the flesh.

Did anyone watch the 20's last night?

                    How did RTS go?

I pretty much ran from Newington to Gate C to try and catch the end of the first half but got there as the buzzer sounded dripping in sweat only to have the sun melting me to my seat for the next 40 mins. The run was nicer. I saw the whole second half but missed RTS's try which was in the first half. He made 140m from 13 runs. Awesome step on the kid. Never got tackled by the first man. Unfortunately they don't go down as tackle breaks cos they didn't lay a hand on him. You just wanted them to spread the ball to him cos he was always gonna be hard to handle when close to the line. Produced one special moment that I saw, got the ball on the right wing with no room, stepped outside his winger then inside the covering centre and looked like he'd score out of nothing but got claimed front on by the fullback who got him mid step. Brushed away his winger flurting with the sideline a few times, so you can tell the kid is strong. I liked in the Tigers trial when he chimed in to the line playing fullback. He set up two tries to his second rower with two deft short passes. Wells looked better in this game but he's got a year and a half on RTS. I think Sheck will play first grade at 19, whether it be at fullback (hopefully cos he needs more room to work his magic) or on the wing.

Thanks Yak if he keeps going well I can see him getting a spot on the wing he seems big enough to handle it. Also love the commitment sprinting from Newington, good work mate.

Highlights video of the Jets win, (panel to the right) their forwards support each other better than our firsts did against Souths which makes it alot easier to crate wholes and dominate at the ruck. Kheirallah looks a really nippy half after starting out as a fullback-winger in the NYC a few seasons, could have a good future with the right pieces around him.

Based on that video, Kheirallah, Henry, Alofa and Symonds were the pick of the bunch.

Aiolamai and Liu made some strong carries too.
