The Newtown Jets are known as the Betty Ford clinic of the NRL, so it's appropriate the foundation club will consider taking in Albert Kelly. The Cronulla discard, fighting to save his career after a series of off-field incidents, has been linked to South Sydney, where he could unite with his cousin, Greg Inglis. The Jets will consider throwing a lifeline to the enigmatic playmaker. ''I certainly would support that,'' said Terry Rowney, a long-time Jets director and sponsor. ''Obviously we're after good players, so we'd certainly discuss that with the coaches.'' Kelly's talents are no secret to Jets officials. Playing five-eighth for Wentworthville, Kelly scored what is believed to be the fastest try in Australian league history when he touched down against the Bluebags eight seconds after kick-off. The Jets have taken in some of the game's problem children; Willie Mason and Nate Myles have spent time in the NSW Cup squad. ''Players that other clubs don't want, we pick up and give a go,'' said Rowney, who had to step down as a Jets director after taking up the post as the vice-president of the NSWRL. ''We tell them the rules but we don't rub their noses in it.''
YOUNG ROOSTERS
There are a couple of young Roosters prospects packing a bit of punch. The sons of Australian heavyweight boxing champion, Kali Meehan, are coming up through the grades at Bondi Junction. Louis is in the SG Ball side while older brother Willis is in the NYC squad. They have followed in their dad's footsteps by participating in the occasional charity bout. They're managed by two-time premiership-winning coach Chris Anderson.
