At the end of 2011, the Sydney Roosters boasted one of the best kept secrets in the NYC with a youngster called Tautau Moga lining up in the centres.
Fast forward to 2012 and Sydney Roosters coach Jason Taylor is resigned to the fact that he will be without arguably his biggest strike weapon for the foreseeable future.
“He would’ve started the season in first grade if he was fit,” Taylor said, giving an indication to how highly the 18 year old Moga is regarded at the Roosters.
“If he was to play a game or two with us this season, I’d imagine that would only be due to Brian Smith wanting to get a bit of fitness under his belt now that he hasn’t started the season with the team.
“I don’t expect to see much of him at all.”
The NYC Roosters have bounced back from their Round 1 loss to the Rabbitohs to post two solid wins over the Panthers and Raiders and the side is still brimming with talent.
Taylor revealed to www.sydneyroosters.com.authe top performers from the opening rounds of the season.
“Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has played fullback for the past few weeks, and I’ve really been impressed by his form. Just the way he’s applied himself.
“He spent a lot of time with the NRL guys in the pre-season, and for me he’s been the standout of all of our players over the three games.
“Joseph Forrester has been good for us. He got Players’ Player against Canberra. It’s his first year in the NYC - he’s from the Northern Territory, so it’s been a big jump for him and he’s handling it well.”
Prop Tai Tuivasa has also played well, with three tries from as many games - an impressive record for a front rower.
“He was really important in Round 2. He scored two tries, including the winner. He too spent a fair bit of time with the NRL squad in the pre-season, which is good experience for him,” Taylor said.
