Are any players in the SG BALL CUP team ready to step up to Toyota Cup this year ?

I beleieve we need another Prop, Second Row and half to move up to cover injuries. Our backline depth is very good.

The only players i can see stepping up would be possibly Taane Milne a right centre, Joe Ofangahue best of the lot awesome workrate for a prop and 100% muscle, also supports look a half which is strange to see, one of the Meehan boys i think its Willis is a special talent, backrower with a big fend and a good offload. Bit thin atm though. And imo Sam bernstrom is the weakness in the backrow due to his thin build. Been really impressed with the left 2nd rower in the 20s Rhyse Martin normally a centre from Kirwan. When Jack Siejka comes back i think the backrow will be a lot stronger.

The backrow in the 20s is very weak.

Yak, I've probably asked this before, but have we hung onto Atkinson?

The kid can play, and is a brick wall in defence.

How about the captain, Alex Thomas.

Goes well from what I hear - nephew of Joe.

Taane is a future star but is not 17 until the end of May, so he will be ineligible and probably won't be rushed in. Joe is in the same boat with age restrictions and is still in school in Qld. Over half the squad is 16 turning 17 so most of them won't be seen until next year I would guess.

Lloyd Perret front row will play this year, Tuila second rower will also play. Brendan Elliot centre/winger will also play. They are all exceptional players and can add some depth to the NYC. Brendan Attwood lock very similar in build to Clarrie Moore may also be considered. Alex Thomas may also be considered although he has some issues around defence which can be easily fixed. Dallas Wells is a real talent but has been playing fullback and may get a game on the wing or if Schlek goes to NRL to cover injury.

Yeah he's still contracted to us but i remember Gman mentioning that he has contracted a severe illness that has put him out for the year. I firmly believe that we win the game against the Warriors with Dane Atkinson in the team. Same probably goes for the Melbourne game. Bernstrom does have some talent in attack but he is so weak on the line and often plays tight in defence for some reason. He and Tai Tuivasa are the two biggest defensive liabilities in the team.

Shame to hear Joe Ofangahue isn't old enough for 20s cos the kid is a unit and is destined for great heights through his attitude, talent and size. Brendan Elliott may get a game late in the year if other backs are injured. Normally right centre but is certainly quick enough to play wing. Also a very impressive goal kicker for that level.

How many genuine local kids are in the side?

The Cloey Crocs website mentions about 5 or 6 of their players who are in the side, including Alex Thomas....are these genuine local kids or were they recruited and then placed with Cloey?

Someone mentioned someone was talking about SG Ball and Clovelly. So I will make a 1 off appearance from my self appointed exile.
Tanne Milne joined the Crocs in the U11s or U12s, Jack Johnson and Alex Thomas have been Crocs since they were probably U6s.

All three are just tremendous kids and I have seen them all do some sensational things on the field.
Alex is a great leader and organiser, Jack is a sensational defender and I believe he was a big reason the boys won last weekend. Both are very focused and have what it takes to "make it"

And then there is Taane, the kids just loves RL and is a freak. If the Roosters ever let him go I would be very disappointed.

There are a couple of boys that have come to Clovelly as part of the rep program out of HMs but they came by their own choice.

Do they get paid at that level or is it scholorships. If it is scholorships what do they get?

Thanks KB, really appreciate the info. Only new here, so no idea why you've exiled yourself, but if you're keen to talk juniors I'd greatly appreciate it - have a very keen interest.

As for the other comment about Cloey being the powerhouse, would have to agree. Has been that way for a while, although they were always strong when I played back in the '80's.

I played for Paddo Tigers and United and Colts were the powerhouses back then. Still makes me sad when I think about what happened to Colts.

yeh i never thought the colts would die. It's such a shame these old clubs such as the colts, rose bay etc have become extinct.I really thought over time some of the old clubs would reappear or some new ones come in however nothing has ever happened. If they got the coogee teams as Easts juniors again they could have there own comp again with the 4 existing clubs.
I also cannot understand how newtown juniors are now considered souths juniors when newtown is accociated with our club.our club always seem to be on the rough end when it comes to juniors or maybe they just dont care enough.
