  • A new PC scam

I was at the club on Saturday night and a mate of mine was telling me how he was at a freinds place earlier in the week and this guy gets a call on his mobile. The person on the other end of the phone tells him that he has a virus on his PC. Not being an idiot, the guy asks all number of questions like:

    What virus is it?
Which PC is it on as I have 4 computers?
    etc, etc

Now this is something new. I guess they were hoping that he would grant them access to his PC to "fix" the problem and as a result have access to their files or install a keyboard logger.

Anyone else heard of this before? Might be worth telling people you know that are not that clever.

I did not get this info via email, my friend was there when it happened.....matter of time before this appears in the media I would think. Especially if these crooks have any success.

Seems like a pretty stupid scam.

I mean, anyone smart enough to know how to grant someone remote access of their PC is going to be smart enough to see right through this.

True but you throw enough hooks out, someone is going to bite...I am not sure if that is what they would have done but that seems the next logical step.

Just done a search and found this: http://www.pkc.gov.uk/Council+and+go...virus+scam.htm
