Not trying to trigger anyone here (Andy!) but just thought I would start a thread for any covid updates and the like.

I’ve heard there’s a new strain hitting now. Hope you guys are ok. I’ve had my shots and been boosted plenty plus always sanitise my hands after contacting anything and touch wood, I’ve been ok. Hope you guys stay safe as well.

Oh yeah, how’s Monkey Pox going over there? We’ve had about 340 cases over here in the US but the focus isn’t in the disease itself but more on changing it’s name so not to offend a certain race. Personally, I don’t think it needs any name other than the Pox. That name sounds gross enough as it is!

Thanks for asking about us Renty. Our workplace has gone back to Amber status from Green as just about everyone I work with has had it now. I'm still working from home full time and I'm booked in for my first booster next week as we'd learned I don't get seizures or anaphylactic shock from Pfizer. So I can just go up to my local chemist a few doors up instead of going to the doctors, which I'm grateful for. It makes me tired but my arm doesn't really get that sore either, plus having to wait 6 months and not 3 like everyone else makes it a bit easier for me also. 2 of my friends in the UK have had Covid twice now, one has long covid and another friend here in Sydney is undergoing a battery of tests next week due to long Covid also. so more time off work for them. It's quite disturbing seeing someone who once was so fit, active and healthy not being able to continue a conversation, complete a work assignment or get through the week without coughing, migraines and ear drum pain now. Another friend has constant mouth pain. So there are some dreadful side effects out there. I hope you and your family stay safe too Renty as I know you are off to Canada on the 26...this week! Enjoy and stay safe and well also.

I can tell you guys that Covid absolutely sucks here. Honestly our restrictions are as strong as ever. I need to take a RAT test every Monday morning before going to work. Its just really annoying and pointless at this stage. The worst is masks through summer though. I live in one the most humid and putrid climates in the world. It is also heavily polluted. I looked at some young kids wearing masks in the mall last last week and realized they had NEVER been outside without a mask. It is madness. From memory we started to mask up in December 2019 and we still are doing it. Truthfully I could pack up and leave anytime but I had to extend my contract until August 2023 and I will be home permanently after that. Strangest thing is I made a shit tonne of extra money from Covid.

I didn't realize I had offended it. Oh well.

When I came here in 2007 it was a different place. I would not recommend it now.

I'm going to Japan next week to see my daughter so have been using COVID tests every day. Frigging scared now as I've worked so hard to get the visa and am pretty tired from the hype (current wife hates me going and gets all tense about it, so it's a mixture of me having emotions about the process/experience and then being frustrated that my wife refuses to share the journey with me, or appreciate what I'm doing).

Anyhow I just did one and am still negative. Pretty tired from the week so every little bit of aching/anxiety/exhaustion is compounded by me going 'OMG it's COVID... the whole trip's cancelled!!! This sux so bad!!!'

We're getting the new house renovated (insulation, new roof, electrics/appliances throughout... literally everything we can think of while the roof's being taken off). Tradies arrive at 6am so I'm getting max 5 hours of sleep a night (so sorry if I'm rambling and saying weirder stuff than usual).

It's tough! I don't have energy to talk about COVID but it's here to stay and long COVID's hurting lotsa people.

I'm scared of killing people!!! My cousin's mum just died so he's over from Europe. He's got parkinson's in his 50's, so I get scared for him. Same in Japan, one of my best mates has a wife with parkinson's (later stage). One of my son's best friends has a mum with late-stage, terminal brain cancer... I don't wanna take away a few more months of them being together. People can say it's the flu and shyte but it's terrible. It's a new virus that we're still learning how to treat... not one that's been around for 100 years.

I'm exhausted. As soon as I arrive at my hotel in Japan I'm gonna be so relieved (will probably go to their rooftop baths right away and just chill there for 4-5 hours before smashing down a heap of seafood). If I'm honest, one thing that's gonna help is that they have a culture of wearing masks everywhere. I thought they were insane when I lived there (through bird flu and pig flu BTW), but it all makes sense now.

Heck. I haven't seen my daughter since mid-2019 (I get 1 Skype session a month that's supposed to be an hour but her step-dad sits next to her [gun to her head style to control the conversation] and cuts it off after 10 minutes every time). Getting pretty emotional but the one thing I'm glad of is that we're now at a stage where COVID isn't blocking my yearly physical access. I don't have the brainpower to think about what's going on with cases and policies right now, but I'm gonna enjoy my week of worrying about other stuff followed by returning to our (almost) fully renovated home.

First of all, please don't ever apologise for saying that you are rambling or saying weird stuff. Most of us consider each other our Roosters family on here and it's good you feel comfortable enough with us to share. I take it as a compliment that you want to share with us. I'm glad you arrived safely and I hope you can enjoy the trip as much as possible with quality time with your daughter.

I'm sorry to read that her step father is controlling and I can't imagine how awful that must be. I only ever had one person try and control me, just last year in fact, (not even family or work related either) and I was so shocked at the time I just did what they asked of me and later was ridiculed for it but to me it felt like blackmail. I now realise that it was a blessing in disguise and it opened up doors for me to allow better human beings into my life, some I haven't seen in such a long time and I am so glad it happened...I feel like I had a lucky escape...

As for covid here in Sydney, today I spent all day reshuffling and rescheduling meetings etc to accomodate unwell people..just stick em all in front of Teams and let it be virtual!
