  • Tahu coming back to league

Dual international Timana Tahu has turned his back on the Wallabies after agreeing to a three-year contract with former NRL club Parramatta.

The 29-year-old failed to attend Wallabies training in Sydney on Wednesday, just hours before it was revealed he wanted out of his lucrative four-year contract.

Tahu quit the Eels in 2007 to sign with the Australian Rugby Union and NSW Waratahs but will now return to the club for the start of the 2010 season.

The powerful centre, who played four Tests last year, endured a difficult two years since making the switch due to injury and loss of form.

Tahu infamously denied reports he was originally interested in swapping codes in 2007 by labelling rugby "boring, and is understood to have reverted to league because he was unhappy in the 15-man game.

His 2009 Test hopes were hit by gaining limited match time for the Waratahs in the Super 14 but was still selected in Australia's 30-man extended squad.

Tahu and Lote Tuqiri, sacked by the ARU last month, were the only squad members who failed to get match time in the Wallabies' first four Tests and were forced to cool their heels in Sydney club rugby for West Harbour.

Tahu, who won an NRL grand final with Newcastle in 2001, enjoyed a successful three-year spell with the Eels between 2005-07.

have we slipped up big time??? we have been talking about needing to sign a decent centre/winger, why didn't we offer him something???

    Tahu is virtually a cripple..

He has the hamstrings of a 90 year old..

We've got our own crock in Mini..

If we are going with a youth policy, then we don't need him..

When fit he can play though...but the risk outweighs the reward..

well put, we need youth and even though he's a gun player when fit, he's not worth the risk.

Spot on. I'm pretty sure Inu is off-contract and if we sign him, he will be an awesome player for us.

            Tahu signs Eels deal?
Speculation mounts after centre misses Wallabies training session

Australia centre Timana Tahu has reportedly signed a contract to return to rugby league with the Parramatta Eels.

Speculation that the 28-year-old is to once again cross codes was fuelled on Wednesday when he failed to turn up to a Wallabies training session.

Tahu, who played four Tests last year after switching to union from league in 2007, was named in Robbie Deans' squad earlier this year.

However, he has not appeared for the team this season.

The Australian Associated Press reported that Tahu has signed a three-year contract with the Eels and would return to them for the start of the 2010 NRL season.

However, an ARU spokesman said: "We don't know anything about him joining Parramatta. All I can tell you is that we have heard from a Tahu representative and he is seeking a meeting to sort out his future with the ARU.

"We will get that meeting in place and see what transpires from there."

Tahu, who has also played rugby league for his country, is contracted with the New South Wales Waratahs and ARU until the end of 2011.

Former Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri, who is also a dual international, was sacked by the ARU earlier this month.

Neither Tahu or Tuqiri had appeared for the Australian team this season and had been playing club rugby in Sydney after the Super 14 season ended.

He's still got a contract with the Eels for 2010, but you think this would almost be the writing on the wall. He see's himself as a centre but they already have Reddy (who has been playing much better than him) & now Tahu. I was a bit worried about signing Inu considering his problem is his attitude but Brian Smith shuold snap him out of it. No one can doubt his talent.
