  • Well done David Gallop

Moved the Tigers home semi final from the SFS (capacity: 48,000) to ANZ (capacity 80,000) so that they could fit in more fans.

    End result: Attendance of 45,000

Moved the Sea Eagles home semi final from Brookvale (capacity: 23,00) to the SFS (capactiy: 48,000) so that they could fit in more fans.

    End result: Attendance of 13,972

I don't agree with your view of the first game. Had the game been at the SFS it wouldn't have been able to reach 45k given the amount of SFS members and the limited amount of tickets on sale to the public

do u remember the 2005 prelim final (Tigers v Dragons) which sold out in the matter of minutes? the crowd was 41,260.

the end result got quite a few more thousand fans in

What's a few thousand? Even if they got 25k - 30k at the SFS over the 23k capacity at Brookavle I still would of made the point.

The game has been sold out. $$ > Atmosphere

Not to mention the finals system continually undermines the home and away season.

This has been an embarrassing week for Rugby League.

45k at ANZ is hardly embarrassing... and u just said it urself
        $$ > Atmosphere
By playing at ANZ, the game has just received more $$ in fitting at least an additional 6-7k fans

The only embarrassing crowd was for Manly's game

I wasn't promoting dollars over atmosphere. The total opposite, so no I didn't say it myself.

Not sure why you think only 38-39k would turn up to the SFS when the capacity is 48k...

Each to their own I guess, I'd much rather see the teams who earned their spot during the regular home & away season retain that advantage that the finals system is supposed to give them and I'd much rather see the game promoted in its full glory rather than two stadiums half full with no atmosphere.

wow.. i guess you didn't bother to read my previous post.
As i said before, a sell out of the SFS for the 2005 preliminary final attracted 41k fans.
So of course friday's game wasnt going to get above 40k at the SFS, let alone reach the capacity of 48k..........

Exactly this^. Just because Manly fans are too lazy to travel across the bridge it doesnt mean we should revoke the finals policy..

Thousands of Manly Sea Eagles fan's boycott SFS final

Badlands: The SFS was preferred to Brookvale Oval by the NRL but the empty spaces dampened Manly's victory. Picture: Mark Evans. Source: The Sunday Telegraph

MANLY coach Des Hasler fired a broadside at the NRL last night, claiming they had 'fudged' the paltry crowd of just over 13,000 that bothered to turn up to the SFS.

The decision by the NRL to shift the clash from the club's sacred Brookvale Oval was a major talking point ahead of the match and Hasler guaranteed it remained high on the agenda.

Co-captain Jamie Lyon said during the week the NRL should have foot the bill for the buses to ferry Manly fans from the northern beaches.

                        A couple of questions..

When a member goes through the gate doesn't it count to the total regardless...

Secondly, rather than just blame Gallop, why were the NRL finals so poorly attended on the weekend?

Is it because the coverage is so good and we all have a better than decent TV these days, and that now our favourite lounge is actually the best seat in the house?

So the "official" crowd of 13,972 at the SFS, talk about creative accounting lol

                          Major embarrassment for the Nrl!

week 1 of the finals broke the all-time record

Manly was poor.. because well.. manly fans refused to travel. Time slot as well didn't help

The storm crowd was also very poor. However, there was a crowd of about 84k at the MCG a short walk away, most of the attention seemed to be on that
