Canberra has changed so much to how it was 20 odd years ago. Lots of great restaurants and it’s become very trendy there. It’s no longer a town just known for porn and firecrackers.

I’d like to take the boys out for a burger after the game. Where’s good to go?

Crackers, pawn and pubic servants...what a trifecta!

Dunno bout the grub shops mate, I reckon Ism22 might give you the good oil though.

Firecrackers have been banned for a long time now. Public servants are fine upstanding citizens.

Just head over to Brod in Kingston mate. Not cheap but damn good burgers.

You could also hit up Grease Monkeys in Braddon for a bit more menu choice.

No Canberra bashing here, i enjoying heading to the Nations capital for a break away, the good thing now with the M8 just around the corner from home, its 3 quick sets of lights then a free run till Northbourne Ave, can do it from the front door to the Canberra CBD in 2.5 hrs if we don't stop.

Used to stay with good friends in Hawker but now one is suffering from alzheimer's so that is not an option although we still catch up with them when we are down there, they took us out to a few nice places to dine over the years but also loved cooking us a nice dinner also, we now stay at the Ramada Diplomat which is a short stroll into the waterfront area of Kingston and also Manuka.
A few trips back we called into Lerida estate winery near Lake George to get a couple of bottles of their prosecco and ended up having a lovely soup for lunch, it was a very cold and misty outside that day.
Love going to the NSFA especially when they have a good exhibition on, also love going to the old bus depot markets on the Sunday morning, picking up produce or nick knacks to take home and the last couple of times after the Sunday games had a hearty warming dinner at the Kingston pub and finished with a nice red in front of the fire there.

Like you and Renty i agree about Brod burger, very good but you can wait for a while but at least the times i have been they give you ETA if busy.

Unfortunately due to things happening family wise wont be making the trip down this year.

                    Hope things are ok Horrie.

The capital welcomes you any time mate!

Best way to do Brod is to order online. Once your order is placed, you can have an up to the minute update as to when it will be ready. Usually order about 20-30mins before you plan to arrive.

Bentspoke Brewery in Braddon also good for that type of boys food 13 - particularly if you're up for a beer as well. I'm no Canberra expert but been there a bit over the last 3 years as one of my kids is at Uni there. Braddon is a great spot for bars and food.

Awesome. You would make a great Canberran. It’s a shame you can’t make it this year with your current family situation. I’m actually going this year with the whole family, which will probably mean we’ll lose again as the last time I actually saw us win at Canberra Stadium was way back in 2010 when Todd Carney had a blinder.

Posted this in the gameday chat accidentally so re-posting a few hours later.

                                ---

Just got my tickets in Bay 11 by the way - shoulda booked earlier as it's the 'gold grandstand' (I'll probably be surrounded by Faders fans). Whole family's there so at least I'll stay calm (in daddy mode I'm a lot less animated at games). But yeah. If you see an Easts fan in the middle of the Faders' members stand with his wife and kids looking away while he crows loudly, drinks cheap beer and starts a brawl then that's me.

Hopefully we're up by a shyte load at half time and that affords me a little bit of space. Will try to get there early for the meet-up but

Have said it before but I credit the Faders with always putting on a good show. It sh**s me as I'm an away fan but their MC / ground managers do a great job of getting their boys over the line at home. Small stadium that looks like it's gonna be pretty much a sell-out. So long as we don't get smashed, it should be a solid arvo at the footy.

                                ---

Burger joint recommendations? People have listed them out pretty much. I'd second them on the basis they're the standard suggestions.

However, if I were to focus on ones near the stadium (Belco area) then...

                                - IMO Two Before Ten is the nicest, most family friendly place and it's right near the stadium. It's my local bar/restaurant though (dunno if they do burgers) but it'll do a nice sit-down dinner.

                                - To All My Friends. Pizza in Cook... never been but have heard good things about it.

                                - Before the game I believe Greese Monkeys (a greasy burger joint in the hipster part of Canberra) is doing a pop-up food van at the Belconnen markets. Dunno what it's like these days. Used to be the goto joint for public service graduates but I reckon that's changed.

                                - Chompy's (which Tracky's objected to) is either take-away or a heavy metal 'basement' (may not be a great place for the wife and kids unless it's quiet - I often go there for a quiet beer after work and it's a fun/spacious venue when quiet as they have pinnies & pool tables. When loud it's some pretty full on heavy metal stuff though, which isn't good for my ears). Take-away Chompy's could be a decent option.

                                - Burger Villain at the Page shops might be a solid burger option TBH. Not an obvious place to go but it's relatively close to the stadium.

                                - Florey shops has this relatively fancy new place called the Irvine (does wines and beers too). My only reservation is that their burgers were solid when I went, but their chips were shyte. Again, it'll be kid friendly.

                                - Only other random tips are Can Tho (Vietnamese in Belco - grab a pho) or Dumpling Inn at Macquarie (aka Jameson Centre... it's a solid, oldschool Chinese joint with good prices that's very close to the stadium).

Aaaand that's enough about Belco for now
