  • JWH Punishment unfair!

Is it just me? JWH quietly got 6 weeks for a tackle that I thought many refs wouldn't even pull up as being a penalty. During that period we've had:
    - Te'o given a week for a criminal conviction.
    - Burgess... will be back in less than 6 weeks.
    - Gronk... no penalty for a far more dangerous tackle.
    - Slater... no penalty for a repeat offence of his karate head stomps.
    - Gallen... 1 week for smashing a guy in the head.
    - Cordner... nothing for punching a guy (I'm not complaining but kept it there to be fair)
    - Many more...

    ---

IMO JWH's punishment is pretty well the most severe punishment that has been handed out this season. If he'd challenged, he'd have risked doubling it... so regardless of how fair it was, he had to just cop it on the chin (no pun intended.)

We have been flat since losing him and Moa. JWH's sin binning also nearly lost us a MASSIVE arm wrestle...

Why? To me his suspension (and lack of ability to contest it) makes a farce of our judiciary!!

And don't think it ends there. JWH hasn't "spent" his points by serving 6 weeks. He'll now be branded as a bad boy who has "a history"... so if anything else happens the punishment will be worse. What a joke!!

He got 2 weeks but he had a prior loading. He has a bad record with the judiciary and unfortunately that may mean that this isn't the first time he gets time off.

I'm still happy for him to be aggressive and play his natural game.

We need a fear factor like when we had big Moz and Jazza can be the one to do that. He's the bloke everyone gets out of their seats for when he gets the ball, or when he goes in for a tackle.

Golly gosh no! I work with a Manly fan who even agreed JWH's punishment was too severe. And don't get me started on what Rorting Storm players have been getting away with for years...

        It was the loading

The loading is a bit of a joke .... Yes we want JWH to keep being aggressive etc but we definitely can't afford to lose him for long periods throughout the season. Then, what about finals ... he'll be treading a very fine line with any little careless tackle costing him and us a pre lim or even GF if we make it!

Doesn't the send off result in an automatic grading? We should have challenged that part, it was not a send off offence.

            Chook.

Mate if it was ever a chance I'm sure the club would've fought it, at least the grading.

I'm guessing they were told "unofficially" it was a lose-lose situation.

Someone had to pay for what had happened the few weeks before. Unfortunately JWH provided them with the perfect example.

              You know it makes sense.

Nah, he got 5 weeks. You can dress it up with talk of the loading nonsense, but the bottom line is, he got 5 weeks.

I agree with ism22 -- ridiculously harsh suspension.

I believe that Jared was dealt with unfairly. If you are doing 20 plus tackles a game there is always the chance that maybe one will go pear shaped. So Jared gets 5 weeks for one tackle going pear shaped. Gallen gets one week for an intentional punch, which I believe isn't part of the game (unless you're a boxer). Tackling is part of the game. Why do players get penalised more for a tackle that goes a bit astray and get applauded for punching another player. I know Jared had carry over points, but that system is rubbish. Do the crime do the time then it's over. But with the nrl it goes on and on and on.

It was the charge plus the loading. The charge was a reckless tackle but IMO it was careless at worst. Therefore the grading of the tackle was excessive. A reckless tackle normally gets you 2-3 weeks but 5-7 weeks with the loading Jared has been slapped with. The loading system is a farce firstly. Plus I think they made the charge a reckless grading so they wouldn't be red faced about sending him off.

The tackle should have only been put on report at worst....it was a careless tackle and not a send off offence IMO. Everyone else has been getting away with worse....Gallen, Cronk, Slater, etc and either get less time in the case of Gallen or no time at all in the case of the 2 Melbourne Cheats.

Of course it's ridiculous and unfair.

                      Particularly when:

The hit JWH copped in the 2010 Tigpies semi was much, MUCH harder and direct. A DIRECT contact with the head by some fukwit from Westpies who I couldn't care less about remembering the name of. Should have been a penalty in front of posts and win to easts - instead we had to wait for SKD to score a spectacular intercept - which of course in the end was much more satisfying.

That hit, which I repeat was 100% more damaging and illegal (even then - direct contact with the head by a shoulder charge was illegal), not only went to the video ref who ok'd it, but is repeatedly shown as one of the "greatest hits ever" on newsreels.

And JWH was enough of a good sport to say afterwards "it was just a good hit". As is the code amongst most players even when badly fouled as he was.

George fatguts, disgusting piece of unflushed turd Rose, himself a master cheap shot merchant, went out of his way after being smacked by JWH to go on the record that his feewings were vewy, vewy hurt by dat bad man Jaw-ed in that tackle.

And JWH, our best player apart from SBW, is rubbed out for 5 weeks, during which we have struggled.

Gallen gets a swinging arm in, then takes not one but two really sweet punches on Myles (who I certainly didn't mind seeing belted). Again Myles says all is sweet, these things happen on the field.

Fark me, that Souffs pommie dikhead throws a friggin sign through some poor barstard's car and gets 2 weeks (imposed by his club, but approved by the NRL). That pommie cretin will be back playing before that poor bugger will have his car back from the repairer.

Yes it's unfair. Get used to it. There are politics, agendas, both personal and business, at play in this game we call NRL. Unfortunately we at Easts don't come out on top with any of them.

The funny thing is, prior to JWH being banned and Moa being injured, in spite of the trend of the last 5 years continuing whereby each week our opponents' discipline improves, and only on the week they play us, such that they only concede 2-4 penalties per match, we were still practically unbeatable.

Even against the bros, if not for 2-3 complete flukes of tries by them, we still would have won. That roosters team tackled for 30 of the first 40 minutes and still won the half.

The class in this Easts side is so strong that if The NRL don't rub out half the side for tackles that are unpunished in other games, we can still compete against and beat ANY other side out there this year.

Krisnan Inu performs one of the worst spear tackles in recent memory on Greg Inglis, yet stays on the field and gets 5 weeks.

JWH gets a tackle wrong and hits Fat George in the head (even though he was slightly falling into it) and gets sent from the field and a 5 week rest (even though 3 weeks was loading)

But seriously this current system is systematically flawed, Inu could have put Inglis in a wheelchair (or worse) and yet he gets to stay on the field. Imagine if JWH had done what Inu had done, they would have banned him for life or worse deported him to the eels!!
