It is super common for people suffering depression to self medicate and generally in the form of addictive substances in a subconscious attemp to regulate moods which generally unknowingly exacerbates the problem.
Carnages whole family has either been in gaol or in trouble haven't they? His Mum or someone is banned from Goulburn Workers just like he is? Sadly for him most mental illnesses are inherited. He is a troubled man with a gift but it doesn't look like footy is going to fix him at this point
