  • Titans sign Phil Graham for 2012

The cavalry may be coming but the battling Gold Coast Titans' depth will be tested again this NRL season after a question mark emerged over Clinton Toopi's immediate future.

The last-placed Titans won't be lacking firepower next season after announcing today they would be adding flyer Phil Graham to their 2012 signings.

But their 2011 backline stocks have taken a hit with uncertainty surrounding Toopi after the ex-Kiwi international fainted during their weekend loss to Melbourne.

Toopi - who will retire at the end of the season - spent Saturday night in hospital and is expected to undergo further scans.

But he is considered to be in serious doubt for Saturday night's clash with Canberra at Skilled Park.

Meanwhile, Titans boss Michael Searle said Graham, 30, had signed a one-year deal, joining the likes of fellow newcomers Jamal Idris and Beau Champion.

Graham has scored 79 tries in 142 NRL matches in an 11-year career with the Canberra Raiders (2002-09) and Sydney Roosters (2010-11).

Searle said the versatile Graham was just what the Titans needed next year in the absence of retiring veteran Preston Campbell.

"With Preston retiring, we had the option to look at a speed player that could add some support in the outside backs and we felt that Phil was a suitable replacement given he can play fullback, wing and in the centres," he said.

Graham, who hails from Tamworth, said he was excited about making a fresh start after his 2011 season was hindered as he recovered from a torn pectoral muscle suffered in last year's finals series with the Roosters.

Good luck to Phil - he's a decent player and a decent bloke.

He's one of the reasons Carney did as well as he did in 2010. He lived with him when they first arrived in Sydney and obviously kept him on a very short leash.

He was the one who ferried him around before he got his licence back around Easter in 2010 - a much better choice of companion than Myles.

He was fantastic yesterday. One of those guys who knows how to score a try. Sad to see him go.

Phil has copped plenty of crap on this forum from many of us (me included). I think he has been good for the past 6 weeks or so. Good luck to him. Hopefully he is going on okay coin.

He has been good for us. A great fill in when we have had injuries.
