  • Roosters confirm nine departures

EXCITING young playmaker Sean O’Sullivan has been confirmed as one of nine departures from the Sydney Roosters following their premiership-winning season.

O’Sullivan, 20, will now look to add to his solo NRL appearance after signing with Brisbane from 2019.

The exits of Blake Ferguson (Parramatta), Ryan Matterson and Paul Momirovski (Wests Tigers), Kurt Baptiste (North Queensland) Frank-Paul Nuuausala (retirement) were already known, but joining them on the way out are Reece Robinson, Mitch Cornish and Eloni Vunakece.

Cornish has retired from professional football and will now move into the insurance industry after taking up a job on the Central Coast.

The playmaker will still play a bit of football on the side with his brothers for the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs.

Vunakece has also hung up the boots and will move into full-time personal training.

Nuuausala will work in the mines.

Reece Robinson. Now that experiment was disappointing.

With Cordner and Crichton as our edge backrowers I'd be surprised if we are able to keep Curran.

I haven't seen much of him but I recall Vossy saying he's one of the best prospects he's ever seen.

He is only 19 and there is a lot of hype about him.
I don;t think he will see a lot of first grade for a while.
The story goes he was going to be the next young gun at the Roosters then Robbo discovered how good Victor was

Apart from Fergo all those departures were expected, and if the truth is stated, not much of a loss, but it does free up some good coin, to search for a gun frontrower, our one shortfall, over a season of footy. But all attempts must be made to secure Curren

He played like 3 games, scored a decent try and had a few good runs. I found it odd that he didn't even play for Wyong after that. He didn't play THAT good or THAT bad. It was really odd to see him punted. IMO part of why he didn't play again was surely that other players developed quicker than expected and he was basically there incase they didn't. But like if he'd held onto a few more balls he woulda scored 3-4 tries in 3 games and been branded a gun... I felt we branded him as having 'lost his confidence' just as he was regaining it. But obviously Joey Manu and Momirovski got the job done without him. Ikuvalu was/is kinda ordinary IMO... no better than Reece. Surely we lose him in 2020?

A more full version of events (Fox just summarised it) says he was signed to replace an injured Bernard Lewis:

                      ^^^

Read that one not the fox one because it's much more complete and fills in a lot of gaps. NFI how Cornish thinks he's gonna work on the central coast and play for Goulburn though? Good luck!

I'd argue otherwise. Matterson, SOS and Momirovski were all promising players.

Out of interest Vunakece is now a 'professional trainer'. What does that mean? Like...
                      - Business coach?
                      - PT? (Damn can he teach me how to get those abs?!?!?)
                      - NRL trainer like Matt King and stuff?

Sad to see Matto , Fergo and Momo go but they got offers of more money and it's about juggling the cap. Crighton offers more than Matto, but we will miss Fergo. will be interesting to see how Morris goes but I reckon he will be solid, and Hall could offer something. Momo just wouldn't have got much first grade behind Joey and Mitchell so he had to go somewhere because he is good enough.

I see hall playing on the wing in A grade.
I see brett morris playing fullback at the bears and fill in for teddy.
I hope we have some good juniors coming through.

It doesn't really free up that much. Most of those guys released would have been on the minimum contract and they all have to be replaced in the squad. Fergo and Matto probably on a combined $600k between the two of them, the other 7 on minimum at $80k a throw, that's about $1.2k max. all up. We then have to replace the players we have lost so we would need to sign 8 players on $80k to have anything decent leftover for another signing
