JOHN Singleton is back sponsoring his favourite old footy team the Newtown Jets.
Through the pub group he owns with Paddy Coughlan, Ned Kelly, Geoff Dixon and Mark Carnegie, Singo has signed one of their hotels, the Vic Hotel at Enmore, on as a major sponsor of the Jets.
A long-time supporter, Singo says: "Back in the early '70s when I was running Newtown Brian 'Chicka' Moore was playing in the centres and was also the local licensing officer. Chicka had a key to the Vic so when all the other pubs were shut the Jets would go back for an after-hours drink. It's now one of the happier things in life that I'm one of the owners of the pub."
Singo recently hosted a lunch at the pub with great mate Tommy Raudonikis as a fundraiser for the family of Tommy's grandson who was tragically killed playing rugby league.
