36 suburbs in Melb locked down.
    Current Covid-19 outbreak.
    Why?
    How?
Herald Sun reports that security staff tasked with guarding returned travellers had slept with guests and allowed them to interact with other isolated travellers.

    Charming.

It is believed that the virus was contracted at the quarantine locations then spread via the guards' friends and family.

    Unbelievable.

      I use some beauty products...soap,
shave cream, face scrub, shampoo, conditioner.
      I check the labels carefully.
      I don't apply makeup.
If I did I'd be checking the country of origin very carefully...as well as the ingredients.
I always check a certain catalogue every week for beauty product specials and sure enough there it was. A really nice looking range of lavender products Designed in Australia Made in China. We have excellent lavender in Australia already.

Donald and Melania Trump test positive for Covid-19.
Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous...absolutely no need for it to have happened.
They should've been isolated months ago.
        They weren't.
        Now look what's happened.

He has spent those months downplaying the virus....how can he be isolated when he is telling everyone to open the economy up? Geez he even gave Biden a serve at that rubbish debate about wearing a mask.
Ive got a mate who is 56 in great condition that got it in June and is still struggling with bouts of lethargy. He has gone from 4 days a week at the gym to walking around the block for 20 minutes every second day. We are very lucky to be living in Australia- best country on the planet

came across this. it's aimed at medical professionals so mainly incomprehensible but there are a couple of useful minutes in it.

No surprise...the "NZ travel one-way bubble" has blown up in our faces.
Kiwis coming here didn't do what they were supposed to...LOL.
Ridiculous idea opening our international border in the first place.
Near as dumb as planning to allow now Aussies stranded overseaovto return here and isolate at home.
Lunacy...that how the mess started in the first place.
A large percentage of returning travellers test positive.
Maybe the govt will let them catch trains, buses, cabs, family cars home like before.
              Madness.
70,000 new cases in America every day now.
Thousands per day in Britain, India etc...all places returning travellers will be coming from.

COVID is not and 'has never been a pandemic': Alan Jones

                    20/10/2020|11min

Sky News host Alan Jones says COVID-19 is not, and has never been, a pandemic. “A pandemic is a disease which is prevalent over a whole country. This is not a pandemic. It was never a pandemic,” Mr Jones said. “So let's look briefly at the facts surrounding mortality.” Mr Jones said in America, the percentage of the population who had died from COVID was 0.07 per cent, in Italy, 0.06 per cent, in France, 0.05 per cent, yet all of these countries had draconian lockdowns and were filled with "rampant alarmism". “Sweden, no draconian lockdowns, basic precautions, get on with your life. Population 10 million, deaths, much the same - 0.06 per cent,” he said. “I have for months cited one international authority after an another who has argued that the strategy is wrong,” Mr Jones said. Professor Joel Kettner, from Manitoba University in Canada said, "I have seen pandemics, one every year, it is called influenza, and other respiratory illness viruses. I have never seen this reaction and I am trying to understand why." John Ioannidis, the Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University, said, "If we had not known about a new virus out there and had not checked individuals with PCR tests, the number of total deaths due to "influenza like illness" would not seem unusual this year. "At most, we might have casually noted that flu this season seems to be a bit worse than average. The media coverage would have been less than for an NBA game between the two most indifferent teams,” Professor Kettner said. “So there you have it,” Mr Jones said.

** I know people will be derisive of the source here, but he does have a point looking at those relatively low percentages...a pandemic?

I can understand the border closures (international) and protecting the vulnerable, rules of quarantine if you are sick, practising good hygiene etc.

But the broadbrush lockdowns and symbolic social distancing rules are way over the top, and the economic and social fabric damage are unnecessary casualties. With serious consequences **

There are two sides to look at here. On one hand we have entitled idiots totally flouting the social distancing and self isolation rules, and then we have tyrants like Chairman Dan and Pallachook totally destroying people's lives and businesses.
With the Ruby Princess and the Victorian hotel quarantine fiascos, people should have been sacked and the two businesses heavily fined. Dan Andrews is a bare-faced liar stating he or no-one in his cabinet knows nothing about the feds offer of ADF support, or who gave the green light for a company owned by someone very close to the communist party, sorry Labor party to secure the contract for the hotel quaranting without any tenders sought.

You are not wrong there. Some of my family now live in country Victoria, a good hour's drive outside of Melbourne as they moved from the suburbs a few years back and every time I call, they tell me of more pending divorces or suicides from their local community. They should look at those stats too..I could not attend 3 funerals of people VERY close to me this year either and the year is not over yet.

not sure we know what we're doing atm. no doubt we'll have a better idea of the mistakes we made in a decade's time.

i can see arguments in favour of the sweden approach and arguments in favour of victoria's approach.

mainly i think it's a disease that can be kept at bay if people rigorously follow hygiene guidelines.

Given the hotel quarantine fiasco in Victoriastan, Sweden's approach wins hands down.

no one's going to defend mistakes (and presumably mistakes were made in sweden too) but the q is - is it better to get on with life as normally as possible, or does the virus mean you have to take extraordinary precautions?
                                i think there's arguments both ways. e.g.:
what works in sweden mightn't work in a country which is sceptical of medical advice, or if the advice isn't supported by political leaders. plus sweden's recent economic performance hasn't been stellar (although, they say, that's cos exports have collapsed - not really their fault).
if we never get a vaccine or improved treatment lockdowns are simply unsustainable.
