  • RIP Judith Durham

I'm absolutely heartbroken as I type this.

As you all know, I am passionate about my music. The first group I can remember listening to was The Seekers. My first childhood memory was a small white cassette player put next to me as a very young child. This song came up the other day on my birthday as this is what my parents played for me:

Morningtown Ride..RIP Judith on your journey..gracious lovely lady

It was sad news, it came over the ch10 news but there was scant information about it because it had just happened. Stunning woman, she will be missed.

Unfortunately the Carnival is over now

She has had ongoing health problems since a brain haemorrhage about 9-10 years ago.

Really sad but a great time to reflect.

FWIW I selected a Seekers song for my first wedding... I'll Never Find Another You (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZf41UudAbI).

I'll leave somebody else to make fun of that situation, but it's still a quality song

I don’t understand the last comment. Why would anyone make fun of a failed relationship they can be heartbreaking Most of us have had them I know I have and tbh if your Daughter has come from this relationship is it a failed relationship.

I posted it on the birthday of someone I loved and lost too Ism so no one is making fun of you on here. If they do, they'll be creating some pretty bad karma for themselves. It's a beautiful song and so gentle. Thanks for posting it in the thread.

It certainly will in my home Jack..just reminds me of Mum & Dad so much too.

Judith can have a whiskey with Dad now:

Colours of My Life was also the name of Judith's book which Mum had I think.

Thanks again to those of you who have been leaving kind and respectful comments in this thread. Judith was Mum's absolute favourite singer so it's an end of an era now.

I grew up with The Seekers being played in the family car as they were one of Mum and Dad’s favourites. Along with John Denver of course! And Neil Diamond. She had a distinctive vocal. They were a legendary band and Judith’s amazing vocal was one of the main reasons for this.

[QUOTE=Jacks Fur Coat; An amazing voice from a legendary band. The music will live on.

Is there nothing we can agree on Jax? Sad as a death may be for family and friends, the Seekers were an ordinary folk/pop group that, by virtue of mere serendipity, happened to link with producer Tom Springfield who longed for a reprise of The Springfields and who provided most of the cloying stuff that always goes down well here and in the UK. To me they were like a kind of Sunday School outfit with Durham's delivery bland, expressionless and devoid of even the hint of sex appeal. Not in the same universe as Dusty's. It was the music of leafy suburbs and the well to do - Athol Guy predictably became a Lib MOP. The others were understandably pissed off when Judy turned off the money tap and took up her partner's obsession with Jazz despite having the least suited voice to Jazz imaginable.

The same goes for Darryl Cotton, Nesmith and Olivia, all derivative and MOR. I mourn Chuck Berry.

Jeez this is really an old bugger's thread. Imagine the grieving when Barry Manilow passes.
