As things have progressed I now see the Roosters as a franchise who are given a grant by the NRL & then have to raise money themselves to cover all the cost of running a footy team. This money comes from sponsorship some money from the Leagues club & us the supporters through membership. But the membership gives you no power to vote board members on or off. When it comes to the footy club I dont know a thing about it, like if it has a board or a chief exective? For those who are members like myself Im not sure how the membership works. I am a member of what? a football team?
What board is Politis & Bouris on? The Leagues club board or the Footy club board

I dont know why the Rooster dont get their own club somewhere around East Sydney & have their own identification.

I think you will find that most if not all clubs have two different boards

It's an old fashioned fiefdom and we are the loyal serfs. We toil the fields (work) and pay taxes (buy memberships) to the local lord (Politis) and his retainers (the board) to fund our army (the team) to fight our rivals (opposing teams) at pre-arranged tourneys (Games). Oh and we have no say in any decisions affecting our future.

        Chook.

Well firstly let me say this thread gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling because two of my very favourite posters from the early daze in Trewhella and Player 1 are back shooting the shit which is how it should be. All we need now is Socrates to complete the picture. And Player 1, +1000 on your comments regarding JT/Willie Wonka/The Pendulum who has revealed himself as a rather sad little sociopath, if it was ever in doubt (you were talking about him right?).

But anyway, back to topic. I will bite Trewhella. The obvious answer to your question is this. In the early to mid 90s, the Roosters were goooorrrrnnnee. Amalgamation or outright extinction was our fate. But Nick not only saved us from this but turned us into a powerhouse and gave us 10 years of awesome fun by paying untold millions of his own money to the likes of Fittler and Gould. In my mind and 99.99% of Rooster fans this gives him the right to run the club as a benevolent dictatorship for however long he wants.

I would like your detailed opinion on why you don't agree with this Trewhella. Don't give me one of your gay modern day one line opaque responses. I want a lengthy eloquent denounciation of the commonly held opinion on Nick Politis. Go on.

Id rather Nick , than Tinks , Russell or the fruit-loop set-up at Parra, Cronulla ect . I don't want legion of leaguie dipsticks voting on the future strategic direction of a 100+ yr old club nor do I want 1 man deciding . Its an old club , in a delicate demographic , which needs management from some of Australia's premier managers . We should be thankful we have these people on our side. Not all their decisions are perfect , but I'll take the good with the bad .

The man has overseen 5 Grand Finals in 10 years. Not his fault the team only won 1 of them .

When the heavy-hitters are swinging , I know who I want in the Easts corner

The club is all about winning premierships.

Throwing millions into it, resulting in 1 premiership in 20 odd years of involvement, doesn't exactly give Politis a free pass to run the club however he wants (which at the moment is into the ground) for however long he chooses.

A true roosters fan would continue to pump his money into the club without the caveat of demanding complete control for the privilege.

Nick Politis did great things for the club during the super league era (along with Kerry Packer), but that has now passed. Dedicate a home game to him, throw an annual parade for him, put a bloody statue of him out the front of the club for all I care, but for gods sake let somebody else take the reigns for a while

                Indeed,

                I am opaque with reason.

                Simplicity.

To say that Nick poured millions in( I agree that he did this ) gives him liberty to run the club for the rest of his life is for mine, sickening.

                Firstly,

How much do Crowe and Tinkler invest per year?
                Millions.

They own the club hence no supporter should dare question cause the buck and the results stop wih the individuals in charge.
Yet we have a Mickey mouse board and football club.
                We " fund raise "?
We have a chairmans club.......quite possibly the greatest con of all time in my opinion.
                It's saccharine.
It's like pretending you have influence when don't.
They all suck up to Nick, which, also heightens the need for open debate on these issues.

                Secondly,
                Our results and our future.
                Bad times ahead.

                Thirdly,
That was then, this is now.
Nick wants all the cudos but it seems he is not the benefactor he once might have been. Also, his one confidant and council, Gould has gone to another club which renders him akin to a below average IQ in league terms. His decision making per and post Gould is nothing short of moronic.

                Finally,

                We seem rudderless.
We are not the formidable force we once were.
There is no aura nor charisma.

I used to be a fan of nicks.

                    But no longer.

I'm fearful he's in the verge of making yet another dud appointment to add to the long list of recent dud decisions.

The only debatable statement involves the future.
