  • Commitment and loyalty Personified.

    Sam Perrett.

he has been labled by some as useless, some have called him slow, some have called him small, some have called for his head.

but one thing you cannot deny Sam is the level of commitment and loyalty he shows to both his family and his club.

If you all remember Sam was a last minute omission from the sharks match approx a month back. he missed that game as his wife went into labour and gave birth to a baby boy.

the little one was born premi and had heart complications. Since the birth, Sam has continued to train and play games and when he is not training or playing, he is at the hospital with his wife and son.

The day after the Melbourne match, the little one had to have open heart surgery, thankfully the surgery went well and he is recovering but he will be in hospital for at least another month.

After hearing the full story last night back at the club, i can only praise Sam for his Commitment, one can only imagine the strain and worry he has been under.

For mine those who label him useless dont have a farking clue. Sam is a great player who gets through a heap of work. But apparently he is too slow...fark off

I think he has realises that due to his shortcomings in pace, he needs to contribute to the team in other ways.

His d/h running in our half is just as valuable as our props charges. He earnt us that offside penalty in the second half with a quick play of the ball.

I thought Sammy, Carney and Friend were the best on the field last night in a team where there were a lot of outstanding performers.

In the last 20 minutes when everyone was buggered, Sammy was taking two dummy half runs a set and making massive metres. Well done Sammy!

I had no idea about the complications they have had with their baby. Hope all turns out OK and I hope the Roosters family is looking after the Perret Family.

Whilst I vigorously applaud Sam's commitment and loyalty to the Roosters, I would think family comes first and I wouldn't begrudge him an extended time out of the game until the situation with his son settles. Having said that, the fact that he has played so consistently throughout is a fine testament to the man's strength. Sam, I wish you and your family the very best and hope all goes well.

There is only so much you can do in those situations. I would think the Roosters would give him as much time off as he needs, though the training, mateship and games are probably a welcome break from the worrying.

You're right FF, the distraction of playing probably serves Sam's needs. I'm just amazed that he has missed only the one game throughout this trying time.

It's not his speed, it's his ability to find the line. 30 tries in 100 or so games is extremly average.

THAT being said, he's an excellent yardage player.

He is certainly one of the best dummy half runners in the game. Like most wingers, he has errors in his game but he is solid enough.

We need to remember the level of coaching some of these guys have had prior to the current regime. He, like others, has improved gradually as the season has progressed.

As JT has pointed out, the club has moved forwards since "Shittler" has gone.

Whilst Trewhella has been right on his assessments of players and coaches over the years, I'm hoping he misses with Smith.

I just walked through Bondi Junction, (something I avoid these days) and was stoked to see heaps of kids walking around in Roosters jumpers.

**** off Souffs. If you want intolerance at a rugby league level ie. Roosters “buy premierships”, have no “local juniors” etc…etc…etc… then you need to look no further than Souffs.

A club that doesn’t even reside in the area that it purports to represent and whose squad of 17 players is made up of over 50% of players that have been bought on the player market!!

After scrapping with Turkey neck Access All Areas Tobin made it back into the room for Smith's speech. He particularly singled Sammy out and said, "He doesn't score a hell of a lot of tries but he does so so much and is so so important to this team." After which all the players and everyone else gave loud applause.

Sammy is a very important part of this side - as much off the field as on. And he absolutely loves the club.

By the way, at the get together today Sammy told me his baby is recovering and should hopefully be out of intensive care in the next couple of days. As a father it is a terrifying thought and my respect for the guy has increased (when I didn't think it could be higher).

Oh how good of you to remember Sam's baby Mario! I'm glad to hear he's doing well.

Sam Perrett is a true Rooster.

Just to add to that JT, Sammy was awarded the Players Player award at the post match function.
