What can we realistically expect this year?

I just cant belive people look at the end of last year, and say that will be the story of this year. It is easier to fire up for a few games with the line in sight. How about we look at the 09 season with the same halves pairing.

By the same logic, why not look at 08 when we made the finals with those same halves?

I think with the added youth and speed in the 3/4 line we will have more points in us.

I think that is an over simplification. Look and see what happened in 08. We scored a large majority of tries from kicks, however towards the end of the season we slumped badly to the extent that Fitzy was replaced by Anasta as Captain in an attempt to turn things around. It didn't help and we lost both semi's. We finished the season having won around 2 of our last 10 games. 2009 was a continuation of that theme and we were running last after 16 rounds when Anasta was injured.

I agree it was an oversimplification - as is saying that because of our result in 2009, those same halves mean we are doomed in 2012.

There are a shedload of factors in whether we can score points, the halves are part of the story but there are so many other factors such as how our forwards go, what our outside backs can do, how we go with injuries, what our hooker(s) bring to the attack, the level of team enthusiasm, the quality of the coaching etc etc etc.

IMO if we can start the year with the same intensity that we finished last season and play the same brand of footy then who knows, sneak into the 8 and then it is a whole new ball game. At least we wont lose many players through origin period.

2012 is on a knife edge. We lack quality in a number of areas, however time and time again teams playing with confidence can cause some damage. With our side being so young, if we build confidence early anything is possible, and that includes Anasta playing reasonably well.
