I've never heard an 'old school Easts man' like PaddoColt61 defend one of our arch enemies so valiantly...bringing yet more 'credibility ' to the term PC and breaking new ground.

as a bit of a west ham fan i agree with that. and as a roosters fan.
i started following the chooks in 72 so, seriously, souths haven't been much of a threat. since they've been okay in the last decade victories over them have been sweeter. but some of the 'rivalry' turns me off. i accept it but we've all got friends who are souths fans so it doesn't really make sense. a respectful rivalry is one thing but - and some of their fans are worse - what goes on sometimes lacks humour and sounds a bit desperate.

one of the big rivalries used to be proddies v tykes and it wasn't enough to be one, you had to be suspcisious/hateful of the other. you'd be ambushed and told 'say the lord's prayer' and if you answered wrong you'd get bashed. that didn't work out well and it's better to live and let live

To each his own take on things. The boundary change was unfortunate and has had a disastrous consequence for the junior comp no doubt about it but it is historical. I don't know why it wasn't contested way back when. I think that the present southern boundary is Alison Rd. but obviously all the beach suburbs are eastern.
I have seen drunken violence in the Pen by Chooksters. A few years back one Rooster and 4 Manly mates in the colours were barracking provocatively for the Eagles (who were giving us a caning) in Bay 24 when one of our mob, totally Franz Liszt, came careening over a dozen rows and got one shot in on the interlopers before sprawling senseless. How he made it was an achievement in itself. Security intervened, all chucked out, never saw any of them again and the pissed guy was a back row stalwart, there every week quietly drinking himself into oblivion.
Bay 24 was a powder keg at times. It was closest to the Doggies fanatics (remember the "Sunsilk Poofs" banner and one year a rolling brawl got to the fringes. Alcohol, as always. was a factor and meat headedness didn't help. I remember one time a young lady, elephants of course, lighting up and then having the ciggie ripped from her mouth by a concerned mum sitting behind. All hell broke loose, beers, beers, beers were chucked and some of the language took me back to Colts training nights. All part of the theatre of Rugby League but also a reminder that that we are not spotless.

There is no formal boundary - that's a myth.

Last time I checked, the Roosters didn't use armbands coated with desiccated dear penis to win their Premierships.

Yes they do hurt. I recall being belted on the head by a old vermin woman supporter one time at the SCG during Artie’s era. I was with mates and our only inappropriate behaviour according to her was us clapping and cheering a great Easts try.

[QUOTE=JB_Cloey; There is no formal boundary - that's a myth.

Mmm...don't know about that. What diminishes Easts is that huge chunk of territory that makes up the peninsular between harbour and ocean. Things may be changing now that the money has a grip on the game but in years past the residents of the peninsular would have looked askance at a working class game after all Rugby, along with the regatta and private schools, was part of the indicia of social class and class consciousness, on their part at least, was quite full on until the arrival of the credit card and mass consumerism. That's why they cling to the 'Tahs with such determination. Bottom line, they were never gonna contribute to League but they're a big area. Yes I know Double Bay, Rose Bay and Watsons had teams from time to time over the years but they don't discount the generalisation I'm making. Easts manor is virtually Bondi to Clovelly in the East and Woolloomooloo in the West, never more than a dozen clubs.
The demographic is the problem as it became for Newtown and Balmain where an influx of non League people drained them both of juniors and supporters. It seems to me though that the women's league might now have a fertile recruiting ground around Newtown and Camperdown - some certainly look the part and there's no shortage of tatts. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

matty he go’s for the Chooks & he also doesn’t mind Souths & I’m the same. Can I just add for myself I don’t mind any of the other clubs, I’m taking a bit of interest in the Tigers & Titans this year I really want them to make the 8. Don’t worry matty I’m 100% Roosters I just like to see teams who don’t have a lot of success make the top 8 sometimes.

mick , im the same , want warriors , tigers to go ok this year. but seriously he seems to shoot down the chooks and talk up souffs. i aint even a souffs hater as ive stated many times ( im sure you'll verify ) and they are my pick for the comp this year, but what rubs me up is its all negative chooks and pro souffs. if it was negative chooks and talking up the other 15 , my pov would be different.

Go the Chooks then Warriors, Tigers & Titans. What would the odds be for those 4 to make the top 4?

chooks, titans , warriors not totally impossible, tigers will get to round 23 inside the 8 , need to win 1 of 3 and lose to teams placed 13, 15 and 16 to finish ....9th.

Please, if you can find any evidence of a formal boundary, I'd be interested to see it.

The "boundary" is a topic often raised at Juniors and nobody in any official capacity has ever been able to support it.
