  • Jacob Miller & Cheyse Blair

I could not believe it when i was informed of the following yesterday.....
Coach Smith is prepared to release these two fellas.

    Jacob Miller.........to the Wests Tigers.

Cheyse Blair.......both the Titans & The Sharks are interested in him.

It sounds absurd to imagine our club wouldn't be fighting hard to retain these Aust Schoolboys rep's considering their potential and the time/money invested in them over the past 3 yrs.

I hope i'm proven wrong but my source is very, very well connected to one of the above clubs.

Maybe someone out there who is close to our officials can make some enquiries.

Jacob Miller is a future superstar from what I have seen of him But I dont know where he fits in to 1st garde here with Carney and Pearce Blair has been wrapped up a bit but I cant say he has stood out like Miller has in the gmes I have seen My Neice knows both of these guys so I will try and find out a little more if I can on this

Exactly however coach Smith has concerns with their "attitude".

I know Cheyse wants to play 1st grade and may be getting a touch pissed off seeing BJ getting that chance and not he.
Cheyse hails from Qld so maybe he wants to return home.
As for him going to the Sharks, i heard on the radio this morning that shortly coach Flanagan is set to announce some signings for 2011. He could be one?

In regards to Jacob's future, imo he will be waiting a while to get an opportunity in the halves if the Carney/Pearce combo continues to flourish.

Cheyse is no where near as good as BJ.. Cheyse needs to improve his defence big time otherwise he will spend his career in Qld Cup.

I have heard the same rumour about the club being prepared to let these two go. Cheyse Blair has also been dropped from the fulltime squad to the NYC squad I believe. I don't think they are coming along as well as the club hoped. It's a shame though as both players have the potential to be 10 year first graders. Blair is in the club's top 25 so he might be released to free up some cash to sign somebody. That's just my thinking. Maybe there are some players in the NYC squad who they are trying to keep for next year. Sam Brunton comes to mind. So does Ethan Lowe, Fine Moeakiola and Isaac Maliota.

                  .
If this is the reason and knowing there is/has been attitude problems with young players at the club, then I am more than happy for them to go.
If they don't have the right attitude then they will not make good NRL players.,

No surprises with Miller....how is he supposed to progress at our club? Pearce and Carney are still young and there is no quality reserve grade competition so he's doomed once he hits 20 if he remains at Easts.

Blair on the other hand must be taking up too much cap space (or have a terrible attitude) in our top 25 for us to be considering letting him go - the centre positions are still up for grabs and he has all the physical attributes to be an absolute gun centre so surely we can hold him for another seasons and see how he progresses.

There are a number of youngsters now on the rise with the Roosters. BJ, Linnet, Cordner, Lowe, Brunton, etc. Add to this that a lot of our FG team are still very young (Pearce, Friend, JWH, Kennedy, Masoe etc). There is not doubt that we will have to let some talented youngsters go. They will not hang around in Newtown until they hit 24. Assuming all of these guys continue to develop, we are in the fortunate position to be able to keep the guys with the right attitude and ethic and let the others go.

                      Great problem to have!

As long as Brunton, Lowe and Goodwin are kept long term, i couldn't care less. Miller is a great prospect but as others said, his place behind Pearce and Carney will see him chase a grade spot elsewhere.

Too many kids expect to play first grade before they are ready.

                          Footy,

Dane Atkinson from the successful SG Ball team is another gun player with a stack of ability in the Ethan Lowe mould. Interestingly, up until a few weeks ago he still hadn't accepted the Roosters offer for 2011!!

Asipeli Fine was promoted to NYC last weekend and played on the wing in jumper 18. Had a solid game and ran the ball strongly. Is developing well physically and is one to watch for the future. Nice bloke too with good Christian values.

Dane Atkinson is an interesting one. He is an addition to an already very strong host of backrowers for next season's NYC squad, Ethan Lowe, Atkinson, Nick Eshman, Lou Goodwin, Boyd Cordner, John Leiataua, Olomanu Usini etc. They are a very talented bunch. We are securing come of the best youngsters in the country. There will be strong competition all over the park for a spot in next season's NYC game day squad.

Asipeli Fine is one I hold big hopes for. He is a very strong ball runner and I was very suprised to see him miss out on Australian Schoolboys honours, given the fact that Tau Tau Moga was the outstanding centre at the carnival yet I thought in the SG Ball, Fine was the better of the two. I'd like to see him have a game at Newtown this year if possible because he seems physically ready to handle a game against men.
