Our team did not play particularly well in the opening month and a bit last season as well and as is the same as this year the only convincing performance was against a poor Parramatta team. As we did early in last season we have seen our defence rise to a high standard. Despite the fact that we lost we have defended brilliantly tonight in the face of adversity and constant pressure.
You can consistently win football matches giving up 60% of the possession to your opponent and having to defend 16 extra sets and make 100 extra tackles takes incredible energy out of the team.
There is however considerable concern over the quality of our forward pack in the absence of Mr O'Donnell and Mr Kennedy as the replacements are far too young and inexperienced to give us the required go forward that we need. I sense that that Mr Robinson has identified this and has now decided to use the backs a lot more coming out of our own end than we did last season, particularly when we are inside our own 10 metre line.
Simply put, there is not a lot you can achieve in a game of rugby league where you completion rate is around 60% and your opponent has the vast majority of the ball.
