When Carney was signed, I thought to myself "Thank God, finally a 1/2 or 5/8with some pace and footwork who can run to the line and CREATE OPPORTUNITIES"

Now, incredibly, there is talk of the following 3 inter related outcomes occurring;
1) Carney not playing in the halves. Surely, this won't happen. Why on earth are they trying to change his position? He is a 6. Why would you spend big bucks on a gun young 5/8, when you've needed one for years, and then try and turn him into a FULLBACK?? It won't happen. Surely. But if it does, then we'll probably see...
2) Anasta retained at 5/8. I love Anasta's competitiveness, and the fact that he actually looks like he gives a shit. You don't see him laughing and back slapping the opposition at full time after a loss. But please, he is just too slow to play 5/8. He has poor footwork. He doesn't make breaks. He occasionally creates an opportunity for someone else, but nowhere near often enough. Even his kicking game is sporadic. He must make lock his position, or he doesn't play first grade. Which leads us to number 3...
3) Minichiello plays on the wing Good lord. Although some fullbacks can be moved to the wing, and rep sides often contain 2 fullbacks, with one of them on the wing, Mini isn't one of them. As someone pointed out the other day, he played there in 2002. That was 8 years ago. He isn't the player he once was. He's a great clean up man at the back, but he doesn't have the strength in his running or the pace to be on the wing. And in defence, guys like Vatuvei and Tuiaki will monster him. He plays fullback
Last year we had to endure the embarrassment of seeing Anasta play fullback, and Ben Jones playing in the centres.
Next season, please, just leave the guys in their right positions.
