      • - Una's does awesome pork knuckles and beers
        - The Balkan (owner, John, is a mad Roosters fan) does mad mixed meat/seafood platters from the grill
        - Fatima's does awesome Lebbo food
        - The Marigold is the boss of yum-cha
        - Cabramatta's the only place I'd bother going for Vietnamese food (try Thanh Binh)
        - Suzie Q's does the best coffee and breakfasts
        - Tattersalls is where I do cognac and cigars with all the bigtown CEOs
        - Lidcombe... great place to fill up on Korean BBQ and soju before big games out at Olympic Park
        - Bill and Toni's... best no frills Italian
        - That full hectic shawarma shop on the corner of Tailor Square does this mad pizza where they put kebab meat on the base and then sauce it up with BBQ sauce. I believe they also do a '$30 kebab'.

        Ignore
        - The whole north shore (poor quality and over-priced... they'll jizz over paying $150 for a poorly done version of some basic ethnic food that you can get a more tasty/authentic version of elsewhere for like $15)
        - Most Japanese food (it's usually made by Chinese/Korean cooks who have never been there + lack the attention to detail that makes the good stuff awesome)

        ---

Will add to my list later on.

When was the last time you went to the Balkan ? the original Balkan is gone now and the seafood one moved into where it was in Crown St now.Went there about 6 months ago and it was terrible, schnitzel was rubbery and the usually nice grilled calamari was not up to the usual standard and was so small a serve. I miss the original Balkan and the staff there, was a regular from the early 80s up until about 5-6 years ago and I remembered being very well looked after when I went in my Roosters jersey after the 2002 final when we beat Brisbane, honestly though was always looked after there especially if there was a line to get in and the mother would come out and say hello darling, you have a booking and wink. So miss it now.

            • Went here for dinner the other night on a groupon voucher, food was beautiful, will go back again, nice to have a nice intimate eating space in the CBD

Had a casual dinner here last night after the theatre, was surprised how good the pizzas were. Nice and casual and no charge for BYO.

              • Not sure how long it’s been here, but Little L burgers and chicken in coogee was super tasty, burgers were really good, chips were crispy, well seasoned and they felt hollow when biting into them. We went on Sunday night, then strolled up and down coogee on Monday night and decided it was the best place available again.

will head back there anytime I’m back in coogee.

Dont hold me to it, but I may have read they have gluten free bread also, I really hope I didn’t imagine that.

Going well RWB, spent 3 days at coogee for a sneaky long weekend, we were in the water for all three, and the hotel let us check out at 3pm today so we could have some more time at the beach, then have a shower before driving back to Canberra.

coogee had a great vibe over the last few days, plenty of charcoal BBQs throughout the grass areas with people just hanging out, enjoying the weather and with the amount of people around, I also didn’t notice any trouble.

hope you can all start enjoying the outdoors again in Sydney without this virus interfering anymore
stay positive I hope 2021 is a complete opposite of last year for you.

I find that Coogee has really turned into a culinary desert over the last few years, i joined the Legion club there a few years ago as it is a nice setting to dine with views across the beach and Wedding cake Island, the restaurant there has changed hands a few times but it always has been reasonable and the drinks cheap, i enjoy going there for lunch every now and then.

They are a small chain, besides Coogee they have shops in Bondi, Mona Vale and Prestons, have had take away from the Coogee shop and it was pretty good but have so many options like that around where i live so i enjoy going to the Legion Club when i go to Coogee for a feed.

Thank you very much and yes, a positive, healthy, grounded attitude is a good antidote for just about anything. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Sydney and visit to Coogee. and I hope you and your family have a wonderful 2021 too. We are going well here and looking forward to new adventures this year.

Oh thanks for the info re the gluten free bread but Kath & Kim advised its 'glutton' free apparently..

I've been pronouncing it incorrectly all this time..

I noticed they have added about 5 new eateries and a new sports bar on coogee bay road.

we were about to line up for the legions club, but weren’t to sure how the food would be, will definitely try it out now you have given it the HH seal of approval

noticed an Italian place called osteria on the side street facing the cricket oval, looked new also? Menu looked impressive.

There seems to be places opening and closing there over the years, i have been interested in trying the Lucky Cat dumpling bar there, the menu looks interesting but it gets variable reviews. Will check out Osteria when i'm next there. The Legion Club is nice and pleasant to sit back and relax, food is pretty good , they have just started renovations to put in a roof top bar.

                              • Treamici Pizza at Croydon Park is where I go for inexpensive Italiano. The owner Pierre is a massive Doggies supporter & he hates the Roosters, Ive been going there for 20 years bantering with him.
On the Doggies they are slowly building & will have a very competitive team from 2022.
