Could we release one of our squad, pay them out in full, hire SBW for "very little now, and a lot next year" now on a back ended contract [like Dragons did with Gasnier in 2010], he medically retires end of season 2020, and we re-hire our released squad member next season?Last edited by Smee; 07-21-2020, 04:30 PM.

we would have to cut one of our squad members and pay them out in full (which counts for the salary cap) or have another team take one of our players (which would be probably only attractive for one our better up coming players eg Farmer, which is not a good deal for 2020 SBW or any other player they have on offer)

We have filled that capacity so we would need to release a player to have a spot available. This is beside the point we have reportedly $400k of cap available and the transfer deadline is extended - that’s all great but currently we don’t have a spot to fill unless we get rid of someone.

Not worth the hassle as he will have to go into quarantine for 2 weeks and no guarantee of getting a flight back here quickly plus time in negotiating a contract and will it be registered by the NRL - They will look at that closely in terms of what he would sign for - market value -wont be a loan situation as he is from a different league - NRL only allows loans between NRL clubs- be lucky to play 4 or so regular comp games as would take time to get fit for matches - sure available for finals - but need to go with what they have- be 35 soon in any case - 6 years out of the NRL/LeagueLast edited by King Salvo; 07-21-2020, 08:20 PM.

If Nick & Robbo think its worth it we will get him if they dont we wont get him.
My original thinking was that he is not needed & that the Roosters have other players doing the job but after chatting with Thirteen I now think that it would be a good idea to get him. The guy is a one off fitness machine who inspires all around him & even if he just played every 2 or 3 weeks he would still bring that aura like he did in 2013-14. He would take up that leadership role that Cronk had over the last 2 years.
He could be the key to a 3peat.

As much as I loved the time he spent here especially 2013 as he was great that year he is only a mere shadow of the player he was even then, Even super League looked a step too far for him so I imagine the rigors of the NRL are well and truly beyond him. I also seem to remember him saying that his body couldn't really cope with the rigors of League at the end of 2014 season and that was 6 years ago.

But, he hasn't exactly been wearing himself out in the other comps.
We could probably psyche him up for the rest of the season.
ITWT.
(His job is safe, as his "win percentage" is good atm...must keep it high, and keep his playing roster of good winning quality).
SBW is an X factor player (2013).
This Sat's game against Warriors in pouring rain at Gosford...90% precipitation...will tell the story.
If we can get him, I would do it...he would boost the size of our team.
If he fails we've lost nothing.Last edited by bondi.boy; 07-21-2020, 09:21 PM.
