Teflon Trent will put some spin on the loss, but the reality is we have just been beaten by the bulldogs, the halves are still not combining well, the team is not playing well. There are some big problems for him to sort out and quickly, hopefully he will switch the halves next game that would be a good start imo

Surely the experiment of Keary at half is over though although I don't think that change will be made.
There are more problems with the team than just the halves combo though which did not affect better Roosters teams than this one is to the same degree.
Basic fundamentals of the game - catching / passing / running and tackling and other basics for an example such as supporting the ball carrier and game awareness - poor.
I know Walker is young and learning on the job but that pass cut out pass was not the right play.
The short pass to Tedesco was the play- Suaalii may have been a tad not up with the play but Tedesco would be through the gap and could also pass to Suaalii to score in the Corner if need be if Tedesco wasn't confident of scoring - 4 - 4 kick to come- not saying that cost the game but all those little things n a game add up.

One gets to be Teflon by delivering the Club 3 Premierships in 6 years.
Cronk
Friend
Maubs
Cordner
Fergo
BMoz
Latrell
Liu
It was hard to win a comp with them, let alone without them.
We can beat the Eels, if we can have a good team ready.

It's like a surprise to the Roosters players that someone makes a line break as they are on their pat malone usually with no support.
Same as in defence for the top teams they all move up together in one straight line
I think myself the Roosters are playing the wrong type of game and haven't adjusted to the new game and are too predictable in attack and this mindset of backing the defence despite the low set completion rates/high error counts etc is old school now in the new faster game where possession is king.
The average Play the ball speed was quite quick - Roosters 2.73 seconds compared to the Dogs 3.43 seconds.
So the problem wasn't that tonight- more of a case of the slowness of the play after the play the ball.
You hear commentators talk about a quick up tempo game- not sure if the Roosters are capable of that though especially when you consider their low completion and high error rates.
For a team not known for offloading and or razzle dazzle footy which could affect completion rates there should be no reason why their completions should be that low or their error rates so high.
Penrith complete currently at 81% and Storm 78% - Chooks will drop to 71% only above the Raiders who complete at 70%
Chooks - 2021 -75% / 2020 - 77% / 2019 - 75% / 2018 - 76% / 2017-75% / 2016 -73% / 2015 -74% / 2014 - 72% / 2013 - 75%
I know people will say but last year they almost finished 4th after the regular season despite low set completions/high errors/missed tackle counts etc and with all those injuries/suspensions/retirements and so on but one has to say it was a fairly ordinary comp standard wise.
The top 3 were way in front of the rest.
There was one play where perhaps manu was tackled on their tryline and albeit a poor pass from dummy half we ended up starting the attacking movement from 25 metres out!
Again mix it up, like friendy used to with a good face ball at a charging forward. Tauks was our best at this in most recent times, but I swear he's cooked. Started the year well, how many minutes did he play tonight.
I miss him out there the big fella.

Cant wait to hear robbo glow over our defense in the second half again like last week. Don't protect them from the media they deserve a pasting.
There's too much to pick out negatively as far as individual players are concerned. Keary plays like he's one headknock away from dying. He's mentally shot.
There is a major lack of teamwork throughout the 80 minutes. They same stupid sweep plays left to right that i'm sure every team in this comp and even overseas teams we've never played before would defend with ease. So predictable.
I'm calling for Politis to go in there and give the entire squad and coaching staff a rocket.
Bring back last years injury decimated team, they were way better to watch.
God help us.

First time poster from a long time Easts tragic here... Been a trawler of these forums for many a year and despite the premierships, retirements and preliminary finals I've now decided to join in these negative circumstances.
I'm incredibly concerned with this side. I see Robbo talking about growing into the season, unlocking the attack and getting the best out of the group. I think tonight confirms that we are nowhere near the best the comp has to offer and the problems run deeper with a complete lack of mongrel, application and will to win in this current group of players (apart from a select few).
Yes it didn't click in 2018 at first... but we had Cronk, Cords, Friend, Aubo, Fergo... X-factor and generational players. Its not there in this squad. We don't scare anyone and the best we can do is make up the numbers in the lower end of the 8.

i dont think robbs has lost the dresser ...
i dont think kewry will shift from half ..
i just think were now a 6 - 12 team dependent on injuries, from , opposition, etc ...just natural attrition ...
i thought we were better on paper then thst but current evidence is hard to argue

maybe we need if year (hopefully not that long) of shitness for everyone to realise we need to earn every inch every game and not just expect to roll over every opponent

Everyone is agreeing on one thing - our star studded side is not gelling.
Everyone is blaming it on out halves combination.
I don't know what the real problem is , but if that's the issue, you need to try something different.
Ala Madge "the genius" over at the tigers, for putting Brooks (at 6) and Hastings together.
If we leave the same Keary/ Walker combinations in place , hoping it will come off, our season could be over if they do not magically ignite.
If Keary loves to run, and its not his natural game to be an organiser, let him run.
Switch him around with Walker
Or if he loves to run so much, stick him in the centres - here's our backline-
Suaalii, Manu, Keary, Toops.
I know, everyone will criticise me for saying Walker is our half, and that's too much responsibility for him, to be the team's organiser.
But have the Roosters been organised against 2 genuine wooden spoon contenders - Dragons and Bulldogs - in the last 2 weeks.?
I don't give a flying f*^k who you would put into the halves to partner Walker, its just time to try something different.
Time to start thinking outside the box.
Some contenders for the number 6 jersey- Tedesco, Manu (not preferred, combining too well with JS) , , Keighran, Momo ?, Watson, Hutchison, and even hahahaha ., Radley.
Create chaos - you never know what will come of it.
Roosters had chaos last year with all the injuries - and look what happened.

The main driver of our losses to the Dragons and Dogs are obvious, they have improved immensely, and we, frustrated by that, have floundered.
To me, it appears we have two choices, we can continue to skip along down the yellow brick road, to nothing in particular, or we revitalise our roster, with several of emerging players , similar to how those players who stepped up last season due to injuries.
No doubt, we will cop a belting or several, nonetheless, as this scenario has occurred many times to all sides, now is as good as any to begin our rejuvenation.
As per the Dogs games, there were moments where we seemed rather good.Last edited by BillyBonkers; 05-01-2022, 08:50 AM.

We're not going anywhere with Walker in the team...its like playing with 12 men and a ballboy. Sure he does some good things but generally speaking he's inactive...if we have 50% possession we need to defend 50% of the time... we're doing that with 12 men....oh yeah, and the ballboy.
