  • Will be keen to look at the film Count. Of course, Russian artists were at the early forefront of cinema from the get go and continue to be so imo. Their cinema is one of the main reasons that I would like to migrate one day.

A recent good one is Leviathan (on Netflix, Stan or SBS on demand). It was financed by the Russian government which was most disappointed with the fruit of its investment. Expecting to see a glowing and positive view of modern Russia, it was presented with one about corruption and social disharmony in the context of a man not wanting to sell his property.

    • Don't tease us Comrade Paddo with your comment about considering possibly migrating one day - Like Nike - Just Do It

Well Leviathan is a depiction of modern Russia one has to say so of course the Russian Government won't like seeing how it is even on the small scale of corruption the film depicts

Reminds me of where my Wife's parents live in Russia - Funds allocated for resurfacing the roads / replacing sewage and gas pipes etc - something happened though as this funding was suddenly only enough to cover resurfacing 2 or 3 km' of the roads and replacing a portion/segment of the sewage and gas pipes.

When my Wife's Father and a few others confronted the Mayor or whatever he is called about it he just shrugged his shoulders denying any knowledge of what happened to the funding and where the funding went.

Didn't help that a few months later the Mayor is an owner of two expensive European Cars and also went on a 3 or so month vacation overseas - not cattle class air travel or 1 star hotels either.

Ah yes Modern Russia - corrupt from the top down and where the average Russian struggles to make ends meet especially those outside the big cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg.

      • Vladimir Milov once served under Putin. Now exiled, he's using his insights to bring down the Russian regime

Vladimir Milov does not mince words when it comes to Vladimir Putin, the man he once served as a deputy minister of energy.

"I think it's pretty clear that we are simply dealing with a murderer, with a person who thinks that it is OK to kill people. And he's been doing it all his life," Mr Milov told the ABC from Vilnius, where he now lives in exile.

The 50-year-old economist resigned from the Russian ministry in 2002 when Mr Putin vetoed his plans to break up the oil and gas giant Gazprom.

Since then, he has dedicated his life to exposing corruption and bringing democratic reform to Russia, working closely with three of the most prominent Russian opposition politicians, all of whom paid the price for daring to challenge Mr Putin.

Boris Nemtsov was murdered on a bridge near the Kremlin in 2015. Alexei Navalny suffered a near-fatal poisoning in 2020 and is now serving 11-and-a-half years in prison. Vladimir Kara-Murza survived two poisoning attempts in 2015 and 2017 and is now facing up to 25 years in jail on treason charges.

Yep, that's what it's like inside dictatorships.

          Source? Yeonmi Park.

Again... old mate's welcome to do the opposite journey. He's got the added benefit that he doesn't have to walk through fields of landmines, be sold to a paedophile and escape through the Gobi Desert at night while it's -5'C (with no cold weather gear).

Such a hard life we live here in Australia, where literally the worst thing that's happened to me all week is having to sit through us getting beaten by the Sharks.

                    • Russian Foreign minister Sergey Lavrov at UN press conference criticised Tucker Carlson's exit from Fox News and said it showed a lack of support for free speech and differing opinions.

He said “the wealth of views in the American information space has suffered.”

Then you have state owned Russia Today publicly offering Carlson a job & one of Russia’s most prominent TV anchors and pro-Putin propagandists, Vladimir Solovyov, also offering Carlson a spot on his web show Solovyov Live..... praising Carlson for being the "last remaining voice of reason" in the U.S. mainstream media.

Tucker is quite the hero in Russia. His bullshit falls in line with the Kremlin's bullshit! Maybe a perfect running mate for the Mango Mussolini's 2024 presidential bid??

                      • I've never seen Carlson in action but posters here say that he pushes an anti war/two sides to the story line re Ukraine. That's not "bullshit" nor is it remarkable - 90% of World opinion shares that opinion and it is only our stifling exposure to Western media that prompts us to think that Carlson is an outlier. What is not so clear is his motive in going against the MSM trend and given that he is/was with Fox, the simple conclusion might be that the war issue was something to beat doddery ol Biden around the head with.

It could be that the network is preparing to fall into line behind Trump as the likely Republican candidate in the 2024 election; the court case’s documents reveal many examples of Carlson’s true loathing for Trump, and it is possible the Murdochs think that will become a liability in the next 2 years. There are also rumours that Carlson’s disdain for Fox management played a role in the decision, as well as abusive relationships with staff on the show.

The Russkis are having a lend is all, having a go at the Land of the not so Free. Carlson would never accept employment in anything to do with Russia. If he did he would become another Benedict Arnold - an anathema in the eyes of that huge dumbly patriotic lumpen proletariat - the USA!..USA! mob.

And how do you know that Carlson is "quite the hero in Russia"? Are there figures to demonstrate that? Admittedly anyone who expresses a non MSM view would be welcome there as they are here on Menadue but "hero", I doubt it.

What you and others here do is to begin with the assumption that the Western media is truth when it is anything but.

Short answer: How about we ignore all the 'MSM propaganda' saying thay Ivan Milat was just a murderer and rapist. Let's just focus on his 20 years of public service to the RTA. You should be more open to his world views... wake up and stop being sheeple. OR! Maybe when you go around killing people and talking utter bullshyte, mainstream views just so happen to be that you're a d!ck?

Using Ivan Milat in some pathetic attempt to make a point really shows you to be the NO 1 Richard Cranium on this site by a considerable distance

I got no figures to demonstrate that, just like you got no figures to demonstrate your earlier 90% quote. However confirmed serial bullshit artist Tuckers Fox rants were constantly being replayed on Russian Today-hence the job offer. Russians love him-he sings their praises. I used the word "hero" when i could have said popular-my bad.
