What a knee jerk reaction from our club. Bad move in my opinion. They have invested in this bloke for many years and to see him go is dissapointing. When he goes on to play for QLD and Australia, you will all be rueing the day we let him go.

Remember Evans and Napa have proved nothing so far in first grade.

I haven't read any of the comments on this thread but there are three thoughts I have when I saw this in the news:

Firstly;

This is a good move for us. I know that one day Marty will become a state of origin forward and may even play for Australia, but I don't think he can do those things here at this club. The style of game that we play is different to the broncos. I don't think he will ever be penalized for staying too long in a tackle with the broncs because they do it all the time in their forwards, especially with guys like Thaiday in the team. Marty will look like he is spending too little time in a tackle compared to the way Brisbane control the tempo of the tackling and deliberately slow down the ruck. Marty was never going to reach the heights of JWH at our club, but he may be very useful elsewhere.

Secondly:

If the Broncos are spending 1 million dollars on a inconsistent front rower, then they are in bigger trouble than I originally thought. They have Mcguire, who imho is better than Kennedy, Tasi, Lui, Hala, Hannant even Thaiday who will one day end up in the front row etc. Their problem is not in the front row. They need more depth in the Halves if anything. Another backrower wouldn't do them any harm. Getting rid of Teo didn't help either.

and Finally:

This will not hurt us in any way. If Kennedy goes on to bigger and better things then good luck to him, and I really mean that. He is a good kid and deserves it. But we already have captain JWH , Moa, FPN, Liu ,LOD (1 more year), Evans, Tago, Napa and a youngster in the 20's Jokatama Dokonivalu who apparently is tearing it up in the 20's. We also have Casty on the way who is a very experienced campaigner and who trent obviously rates highly.

A million over three years isn't actually that much in the current/future market. That's roughly over $300K a year. About average yearly wage for an NRL footballer tbh.

Works well for both parties. MK was holding back Napa, Evans and Liu, this gives them a clear shot at the FG side and frees up some money for us to target a back.....

Now we just have to be patient and wait and see who we sign as a back for next year....

I don't know how to feel about this ? He has been one of my favourites for a while now but just doesn't seem to be coming on like some of the other young props are. I also don't want to lose a Napa or Evans for him...

Good player but with Moa, LOD, JWH, Napa, Evans and that French bloke, what can I say?

I'll miss him for depth but won't be worried about our form dropping.

Broncos + Kennedy, Cameron Smith and Ben Barba would be an okay team with opportunities available for those who sign.

Random note, if Smith leaves the Storm, will they be chasing the next best QLD hooker? I feel QLD's success has allowed a lot of teams to keep players of Origin standard on reasonably low salaries.

It's a fear... although we have mostly Kiwis and NSW-men so I'm not too worried.

JWH last signed on for ~$1.2 milion from memory for 3 years and he was a proven first grader even back then(last year). MK would be worth no more than 150k per season with all his injuries and inconsistent form.

We must clearly have huge wraps on Liu, Napa and Evans...to accommodate them, we have now lost Masoe, Tasi and Kennedy.

The media statement from the club makes it clear that the player has requested the release....and by the tone of the statement the club isn't happy.

The Roosters basically have said the Bronco's have offered more than we could.
The Broncos will say he wants to move back to be closer to family and friends.
I'm sure the Bronco have nearly doubled his earnings. Good luck to Marty.

Thank fark he is gone, we don't need him or his constant penalties, all we need now is for SKD to leave as well & we will have a 100% strong side with no liabilities. You are only as strong as your weakest link.
